Warner Bros. Announces ‘LEGO Marvel Super Heroes’; Releasing This Fall

Published 1 year ago by

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes AnnouncedLEGO and Traveller’s Tales have today announced the next big property they are preparing to get the video game treatment, and it just might be the most exciting one yet. While franchises like DC Comics, Harry Potter, and most recently The Lord of the Rings have been adapted by TT Games to tremendous result; it is the announcement of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes that is sure to send gamers through the roof.

Set for release some time in 2013, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes will feature a unique story that sees S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury recruiting a group of Marvel’s best and brightest to take on the likes of Loki and Galactus. So gamers looking for a LEGO title that follows the plots of Marvel’s ‘Phase One’ movies best look elsewhere.

Among the superheroes listed in the announcement were Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Spider-Man, and Wolverine. Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive promised that more heroes will be featured in the game — from properties like Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Guardians of the Galaxy — but only those five were mentioned by name. A quick visit to the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes official site reveals that Captain America, Black Widow, and Deadpool are involved in the game in some capacity, but beyond that the inclusion of characters like Hawkeye or Ant-Man is unclear.

What’s also unclear is how TT Games will set up the world in Marvel Super Heroes, which is said to explore famous landmarks in LEGO New York as well as iconic locations outside of Earth (Asgard anyone?). Both LEGO Lord of the Rings and LEGO Batman 2 featured their own versions of sprawling open worlds, so it stands to reason that TT would further riff on that concept for this game.

We should hopefully learn more about LEGO Marvel Super Heroes in the coming days, as it has just been announced as the cover story for February’s issue of Game Informer. The cover itself features three of the characters mentioned, as well as Captain America, but gives no sense of the world or the gameplay, so it will have to be the article’s content that further spills the beans.

The most peculiar piece to this whole story is the fact that Warner Bros. is playing nice with Marvel superheroes when they have been in cahoots with DC Comics for quite some time now. Apparently this is more of a LEGO thing, though, as the building block maker currently features many different Marvel sets.

Regardless of the collusion among enemies, it’s great to see LEGO and Traveller’s Tales take on yet another exciting property. For some the franchise has worn thin, sure, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be excited about controlling a LEGO Iron Man or Hulk.

What do you think of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes? Does it sound like a worthwhile reason to return to the LEGO franchise?

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is slated for a Fall 2013 release on the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, 3DS, DC, Wii U, and Vita.

  1. cant wait, Tt always steps it up with every new lego game they release, plus the dev diary showcases some pretty cool new stuff. this sadly might be one of the best marvel games out, next to the punisher and ultimate alliance 1 :(

  2. Well I’m excited for a Lego game for once! And Hawkeye was confirmed to be in the game! He was shown in a video and mentioned on the site. :)

    • the roster is going to be pretty big and if batman 2 and LoTR are anything to go by a lot of the characters are going to have unique skills and not be shifted into 2-3 categories like in the star wars on indiana games.

  3. Gotta say I don’t typically care for Lego games. Batman 1 and 2 were good but honestly I could have passed. Ill definelty be keeping a eye on this game. Just from the sound I like it though lol a marvel game. All for it.

  4. GIVE UP ON THE LEGO GAMES THEY ALL SUCK
