Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D Screenshots

Nintendo is known for its staple franchises. Mario, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, and Zelda, to name a few. Of those mentioned, The Legend of Zelda seems to be getting the first dibs on the recently released Nintendo 3DS.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, arguably one of the best games in the series, is set to be released June 19, 2011, for the 3DS, featuring updated graphics, controls, and a few little tidbits for the hardcore Zelda fan (i.e., Master Quest). Recently, images were released that show off how shiny the new version of the game looks.

The images include a few key events any player of the games would recognize: Link receiving the Ocarina, Link in combat, Link receiving the sword in that well known pose (arms outstretched, look of utter glee), and a few others.

Judging by the screenshots, it seems as if The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D‘s graphics have received an overhaul; the game looks polished, smooth, and vastly superior to Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks on the DS. Link appears to be between the age of that edgy teenager from Twilight Princess and the kid with the talking hat in Minish Cap.

The Nintendo 3Ds’ launch lineup was somewhat slim in terms of quality. Nintendo, as of late, seems to have its focus set more on developing new consoles and new controllers than new games, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Despite a downturn in sales since release, the future looks fairly bright for the 3DS, with games like Ocarina of Time 3D, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D on the way.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D should have some real staying power, and the 3DS’s short battery life may be a problem for players of the game (well, more of a problem than usual). As with most hardware, using extra features (e.g., the 3D function) drains the battery considerably faster. Therefore, the 3D aspect of this upcoming game may have to hold off until you get home and pop your 3DS into its cradle.

What 3DS game are you most anticipating? Will you pick up a copy of Ocarina of Time 3D this June?

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is set to arrive on June 17, 2011, for the Nintendo 3DS.

  1. It is sad that such an old game, that is available on so many nintendo platforms already, is one of the 3DS’ bigger games. Sadder still that this port wasn’t ready at launch. Why was nintendo is such a big rush to launch an incomplete system with no real games?
