A patch for Left 4 Dead 2 was released on Steam in an attempt to solve some of the matchmaking and performance problems PC players have been falling victim to, but many annoying bugs and random crashes remain. Chargers are sticking people into walls, witches are becoming invincible, invisible walls are incapacitating survivors and varying degrees of crashing is occurring. Xbox 360 owners have previously been left for dead when it comes to updates, waiting an extra month for patches for the first Left 4 Dead.
I’ve had a few crashes and a lot of charger wall sticking happen myself. It hasn’t really put me off of playing the game, even if the crashes do tend to happen at the end of a round, going into the tie breaker in a scavenge match leaving me sitting at my desktop, my adrenaline pumping without reason.
The steam community has a bug list if you’re interested in seeing the compilation of interesting glitches or crashes people are running into. Hopefully Valve has a bug tracker that looks something like this and will be patching up the game so we can go back to fearing zombies instead of crashes.
See the below the Left 4 Dead 2 patch change log:
- Fixed performance problem when rendering lots of decals, notably when fighting tanks with shotguns
- Fixed rcon response not working on Linux dedicated servers
- Fixed matchmaking problem matching into Advanced and Expert games
- Fix bug that would cause other specials to try to pummel a player a Charger disconnects or reconnects
- Fixed versus mode results panel being cut off in transition stats screen in non-english Found games: fixed non-player entries drawing the wrong type of icon in the selected item name label Game mode selector on main menu now takes keyboard input.

I haven’t had any problems with the game so far, hopefully won’t start seeing them now, lol.
i see a lot of frame issues when playing with multiple players when explosions or hordes of zombies are running at us
I had a new type of crash last night. Instead of just locking up the screen flashed bright and then came back but as if I were watching a home movie reel.
I could barely see, but I kept playing to the end of the round of scavenge for the sake of my teammates. I’d rather be stuck in a corner by a charger than blind.
Im running on a PC, Vista 64 btw. SLI 9800 GTs. No frame issues, just complete weird crashes. Im thinking of reformatting anyway… but then I have to reinstall all my games. *moan*
Two possible problems there. First SLI has its fair share of instability issued, then there’s the 64-bit Vista. You’ll probably have fewer issues with the 32-bit Vista, and even fewer issues with XP.
I’m running a 3 year old computer with the old AMD Athlon 2400+ processor, lol, but I do have an ATI 4890 1GB video card on Windows XP Pro. I am running the game with all graphics settings on high, and it runs perfect. My only problem with it is the intro movie’s sound would keep skipping and pausing. But the actual gameplay runs fine. Haven’t experienced any of these bugs yet, which is good… Hopefully I don’t jynx myself for saying that, lol.
I’ve been having a ton of crashing whenever I play The Parish. For some reason every other campaign runs absolutely fine. Did Valve do something differently with that campaign?
