Left 4 Dead 2 will officially be available on Mac systems tomorrow, and developers Valve have stated that the original should be available by Halloween. Now, I’m not generally one to say I told you so, but we did call Valve out in our last article covering Left 4 Dead‘s The Sacrifice.
In the trailer for The Sacrifice, we noted that the DLC mentioned it would be available on PC and Mac, although at the time there was no official statement from Valve about the game receiving a Mac release. Valve also placed a statement on their blog discussing The Sacrifice.
“If you don’t already own it, now is a great time to pick it up. Not only do you get Left 4 Dead 2 but steam owners get all the previously released DLC for free! So you get the original 5 Campaigns and The Passing, The Sacrifice and No Mercy. Best of all, there is already a thriving community and excellent community created campaigns waiting for you.”
Valve, being the fantastic company that it is, has also extended the free download to anyone who has already purchased the game for PC. Currently there has been no mention of a sale for the Mac release, but it seems unlikely as the new DLC The Sacrifice is being released October 5. For those who don’t already own it, you can purchase Left 4 Dead 2 on steam for $19.99, or as a bundle with the original Left 4 Dead for $29.99.
Valve also updated their post to state there will be five new mutation modes, free for PC and Mac users. Xbox 360 users will have to download The Passing to get them.
“Do you ever play Versus and wish you could be the Tank? Did you ever wish you could be nothing but the Tank? And when you died you spawned as the Tank? And all your friends were Tanks as well? The new Mutation Taaannnk!! is a little like that. And by a little, we mean exactly like that.”
Additionally, the five achievements that come with the new DLC have been revealed, and are as follows:
- Supreme Sacrifice — Complete The Sacrifice.
- Chaos Generator — Have all 3 generators running at once in The Sacrifice finale.
- Barrel Rolled — Kill a Special Infected with an exploding barrel.
- Kill Bill — Have Bill sacrifice himself for the team.
- Sacrifizzle — As a Special Infected, incap someone who is trying to sacrifice themselves.
These new achievements provide additional insight into the new DLC as well. For those who are not following along with the Left 4 Dead comic, we are still not sure how exactly one of the survivors will be able to sacrifice themselves. We do know that there is no special achievement for sacrificing yourself though, and that the final push will involve sustaining generators.
Mac users, will you be ready to bloody up your nice white devices with some zombie parts when Left 4 Dead 2 is released October 5, 2010?
