‘Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance’ Will Contain Hints for ‘Kingdom Hearts 3′

Kingdom Hearts 3 Info In Kingdom Hearts 3DS

If there’s one criticism that can be aimed at the Kingdom Hearts series, it’s that it takes forever for a game in the main series to be released. Consider this: the first Kingdom Hearts game was released on March 28, 2002, close to the beginning of the PlayStation 2′s run. The second official game, Kingdom Hearts II, was released on March 28, 2006, four years later and close to what many believed to be the end of the PS2′s lifetime.

Now, after three spinoff games that went out of their way to establish more of the history in the world of Kingdom Hearts, many are just wondering when information on a third official title will be revealed. Well, you’re in luck, as apparently, there will be hints about Kingdom Hearts 3 in the game for the 3DS, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

In what will continue an ongoing tradition in the series, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance contains a secret movie that will give some information regarding what will happen in Kingdom Hearts 3. Square Enix‘s Tetsuya Nomura revealed this in Famitsu magazine, but naturally went no further than that. He did, however, explain that Kingdom Hearts 3 would be the last game in the current storyline, and would finish the story involving Xehanort. They will continue after that, with Sora still as the protagonist, but start a new story altogether.

Another question addressed was whether or not HD remakes of games in the series were a possibility. Nomura replied that they were looking into HD tech for some of their older games, but didn’t specify if it was for Kingdom Hearts or for other Square Enix titles. Maybe we’ll be getting a Kingdom Hearts HD, or maybe that long-rumoured remake of Final Fantasy VII is closer than we think. We’ll just have to wait and see.

From the Dream Drop Distance details we know so far, we can safely assume that the third Kingdom Hearts will focus on the final battle with Xehanort. But we still have no information on what worlds will be featured, or how the backstory elements established in the spinoffs will come into play. Hopefully Dream Drop Distance can provide the answers to some of these questions.

What do you think the story of Kingdom Hearts 3 will contain? What new worlds will be seen in it?

  1. I’m just ready for KH3 lol

  2. Kingdom Hearts was one of the first video games I ever played, at age 7. Of course I understood none of it, I really only understood it 3 years later when I heard KH2 was going to go out. It was awesome, and I will squeal like a fanboy when KH3 comes out.

  3. Hurry up >.< cant wait to play KH3 and Dream Drop Distance

  4. I am sick of the portable installments. We all want Kingdom Hearts 3, quit BS’n us, and start making the damn game.

  5. It’s about dam time we heard SOMETHING about it. I’ve been a KH fan ever since I was 9 when the first one came out. I’ve played/beaten every game at least twice except for the newest one on the DS, the re:coded one I believe, because I already know everything about it and have seen it all including the endings. I bet KH3 isn’t going to get released until like 2014 though -_-

  6. Awesome. I just really hope KH3 will be a console version. I am getting really tired of it being on the handheld. Starting to hurt my eyes :P

  7. Kingdom Hearts 3 is, like it said, going to be the final battle with Xehanort. At the end of Recoded Yensid said that Xehanort will be revived because his nobody and heartless were destroyed. The original Xehanort from birth by sleep will the be antagonist. Sora will also have to save all the people that are connected to him. Specifically Terra Ventus Aqua and Ansem the wise.

  8. Square and Nomura needs to stop taking their damned time. This is just stupid… square is spending their time making uncalled for games like XIII-2 and hacked-together MMOs while completely ignoring what people have largely said they wanted. If they have a bad next few quarters, they should look anywhere but the consumers. Even a “slightly updated” (not PS3 level but near wii-level) FF7, on a hand held platform would have been welcomed and sold like hotcakes. Versus XIII is becoming the new Duke Nukem Forever even though it sounds x1000 better than anything square is actually spending time on right now. Kingdom Hearts 3? Well, nothing even needs to be said.

As for this post? Well… the site is called game rant…

I’m a disappointed gamer. I actually haven’t bought a single game since 2009. It SUCKS right now!

  9. Well listen I know this game will be out soon and the only KH games I played are not for the DS why not switch the KH to Xbox and PS3 like they did to Final Fantasy 13

  10. this one better be for ps3

    • NEVER MIND THAT COMMENT ITS NOT GONNA BE!!!!!!!!!!

  11. They really need to make another console, hopefully KH3 will be on the ps3, and if its on ps3 its most likely gonna be on Xbox. Heck, it may be out when the next gen systems are out.
