It may be surprising to some that Warhorse Studios' Kingdom Come: Deliverance is so popular, considering the limited scope of its indie release. Nevertheless, the action role-playing game set in the medieval kingdom of Bohemia previously reached 500K in sales, which prompted game director Daniel Vavra to state that selling over a million copies would be favorable. It seems his wish has been fulfilled.

According to a report from Lupa, the game has officially sold over 1 million copies. In fact, the CEO of Warhorse Studios Martin Fryvaldsky revealed, “We’re about one million when I count all the platforms and distribution channels. We are really happy.” It is an impressive feat since Kingdom Come: Deliverance is Warhorse Studios’ first game since adopting the name in 2014, and hopefully, the studio can continue to produce quality products.

The figures aren’t an exact estimation, however, because sales figures are still being calculated. Factoring in that most of the sales occurred over the first weekend, Fryvaldsky also stated, “the tip is at the beginning. The game is very similar. At the beginning, there is a strong tip and then there is such a tail and it is up to the tail to keep it as long as possible.”

Following Fryvaldsky’s analogy, the tail of Kingdom Come: Deliverance would be continuing sales and post-launch support. Despite its massive day one patch of 23GB, the game still has improvements to make, such as fixing its save system. However, if Fryvaldsky’s and other developer’s statements on this matter are indicative of anything, then it seems that Kingdom Come: Deliverance should definitely get continued support.

While this report form Lupa is a loose translation from Google Translate, the essential idea is that Kingdom Come: Deliverance is successful, perhaps more than expected. Even though the game still requires some fixes such as the aforementioned save system or its lockpicking mechanic, Warhorse Studios seems up to the challenge. Due to these factors, Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a prime example of a powerful indie game being successful, and the fact that is has surpassed 1 million in sales is evidence of that.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
