UPDATE: Glu Mobile has issued a statement clarifying that Kim Kardashian: Hollywood has been downloaded 42 million times, not 84 million times as was previously reported

While most gamers are probably interested in the 2016 DICE Summit for the Guillermo del Toro and Hideo Kojima reunion, other news is coming out of the event as well. In fact, Glu Mobile CEO Niccolo de Masi has taken the opportunity to reveal that Kim Kardashian: Hollywood is on track to becoming one of the most successful mobile games of all time.

According to de Masi, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood has been downloaded over 42 million times. Additionally, over 3.29 billion individual play sessions have been logged, and players have spent a total of 35,000 years playing the game. While most hardcore gamers would likely scoff at a game like Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, there's no denying that it is an absolute powerhouse on the mobile market.

Within its first five months of availability, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood generated more than $100 million in microtransactions. de Masi stopped short of revealing how much total revenue the game has made, but one has to imagine that it's quite substantial. Even though Kim Kardashian: Hollywood is a free-to-play game, Glu Mobile has previously said that it expects its celebrity mobile games to pull in $500 million a year.

As for why Kim Kardashian: Hollywood is so successful, de Masi credits Kim Kardashian herself for promoting the game on social media, as well as the game adapting to what Kim does in real life. By updating the game and adding new content based on Kim's life, Glu essentially has an unlimited source of material that helps keep the game feeling fresh for its enthusiasts.

Kim Kardashian: Hollywood enthusiasts should also know that Glu Mobile also used its platform at the DICE Summit to announce a spin-off game. Entitled Kendall & Kylie, the game has similar gameplay features as Kim's game, albeit with her half-sisters Kendall and Kyle Jenner as the stars. It is available to download for iOS and Android as of today.

It's not surprising that Glu Mobile has decided to pursue another game based on a member of the Kardashian-Jenner family, considering the massive success that is Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. The game's impressive numbers have also likely played a role in the company branching out to other celebrity-based games, like the recently announced Taylor Swift video game or the Britney Spears video game that was announced last year.

With Kim Kardashian: Hollywood doing big business for Glu Mobile, the mobile market will likely become flooded with celebrity-based mobile games. Besides Glu Mobile's ventures, expect other companies to take a stab at developing their own celebrity video games once their executives see the numbers behind Kim Kardashian: Hollywood.
