In an Interview with Games TM, Rare’s Studio head Mark Betteridge spoke about Killer Instinct, a franchise he considers “near and dear” to Rare. He talks about the possibility of a Killer Instinct 3.
“It’s about timing, and it’s about the opportunity creatively and gameplay-wise that it would offer. Street Fighter IV looked great and they’ve done a great job, and I’m a big fan of those products, but with KI we want to do something different rather than go back into that arena.”
He then continues expanding on what that something different may be.
“I think it’s about doing something different than with a conventional controller.”
Sounds like Natal controls to me. This all makes perfect sense considering Microsoft canceled Kameo 2 so Rare could focus on Natal development. I am still trying to decide if trading Kameo 2 for Killer Instinct 3 Natal is a fair trade. Don’t get me wrong, I am excited for a new Killer Instinct, but I am not sure if Natal controls would improve the game. Sure it would set itself apart from all the other fighters out there, but until I get hands on time with Natal, I will be skeptical of the games controls. If Microsoft and Rare choose to include Natal controls, I hope they have the option to play with a controller as well. I don’t want to be stuck dancing around the room to play a fighting game.
Are you for or against Natal controls in Killer Instinct 3?

Another Killer Instinct?!?!?! All I can say is that im very interested in seeing what comes from this news and if it really is coming out. I heard some rumors a while back about a second Killer Instinct game for the next gen consoles but nothing panned out.
It’ll definitely support regular controls as well. Imagine them only selling it on Natal and how small the sales would be? It’ll take a while to build up the Natal userbase.
All i can say is that hopefully its on the ps3… Eventhough i love playing with jago ( not in that way) i will definately not switch to 360 for another KI or any game for that matter
The only way Natal can work with a traditional game is if the user can hold an analog stick in their hand. Otherwise you have no proper way of moving your character, leaving the developer to have to pull a “Wii Sports” where your character is moved for you.
