Cole MacGrath and Jak Join ‘PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale’

Jul 15, 2012 by

It’s officially the last day of San Diego Comic-Con, and this year’s big convention has been quite kind to gamers. We learned the release date for Gears of War Judgment, the existence of a new Deadpool game, and now we’ve learned the identity of two more characters joining the PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale roster. Jak and Daxter will be united as a single brawler, and they’ll be accompanied by Cole MacGrath of Infamous fame.

This announcement came during the official panel for Battle Royale, but the inclusion of each new combatant doesn’t come as a surprise. The voice actor for Cole MacGrath has tweeted about his involvement with the game, which more or less confirmed the character’s involvement. Jak and Daxter were also essentially guaranteed a spot after a stage based on their universe was announced, but it’s still nice to see them in action against characters like Nathan Drake and Big Daddy.

Jak and Daxter will work together to beat down their opponents (Daxter assists Jak in certain melee-centric assaults), but they’re also backed up by a wide array of all-too familiar weapons from their past adventures. The Blaster, Needle Lazer, Gyro Burster, and Mass Inverter have all been incorporated into their All-Stars arsenal, but the highlight of their move set comes in the form of Jak’s super. Once the mascot’s power meter has been built up, players will have the ability to transform Jak into either his Dark or Light version – giving them the ability to instantly decimate heaps of innocent fighters.

If the reveal of the previous challenger didn’t shock you, then this one may. Cole MacGrath has proven time and time again that he has what it takes to stand toe-to-toe with some of the toughest fighters ever known. Hot off his appearance in Street Fighter X Tekken, Cole has found his way into PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. With his electric and ice powers in tow, this newly revealed aggressor should fit right in. He has several different methods of attack to choose from, but the most powerful is his ability to conjure up massive vortex capable of blowing away every threat on the battlefield.

After the reveal of Toro and Heihachi just over a week ago, no one was really sure what to expect next from the team at SuperBot. Cole and Jak are classic characters though, hence why they ranked high in our list of top 25 characters that need to be in Battle Royale, and it’s nice to see a few more shoe-ins revealed. There are definitely a few more surprises in store for those following PlayStation All-Stars, so stay tuned to Game Rant for more character reveals.

  1. About time! These are the type of characters that I finally wanted. Characters that the average fan would know.

  2. Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank are the ones I have been wanting, now that at least J & d are in, the others are just icing on the cake so to speak :)

  3. “If the reveal of the previous challenger didn’t shock you, then this one may.”

What? Everyone knew these characters would join the roster of Battle Royale. They were no-brainers. I’m excited after seeing their gameplay trailers!

    • Shock… He controls electricity… let it sink in. ;)

      • Oh wow… another Riley Little pun. When does it end? :P

        • I solemly swear that as long as I still draw breath I shall drop mad puns on our readers!… Or until I get fired. One of the two. :P

          • I’m guessing the latter. ;) Haha.
