Today, German publisher bitComposer announced that it will be developing Jagged Alliance 3. This marks the third time Jagged Alliance 3 has been announced. It’s not that bitComposer forgot about the previous announcements…it’s just that the previous developer, Sir-Tech, has gone the way of Duke Nukem Forever, citing financial difficulties and trouble retaining their license (hence why bitComposer is currently working on the third installment).
Jagged Alliance is a series that gained a large following of turn-based strategy enthusiasts, but sales were never high enough for Sir-Tech to be financially secure. The company closed shop after developing Jagged Alliance 2 and the title was picked up by other publishers for distribution. For six years, fans of the series have been waiting for news about the future of the Jagged Alliance franchise, and with this announcement, there may be hope again for the series…provided bitComposer does what others couldn’t, i.e. stay in business or suddenly switch to another project.
If you are a fan of turn-based strategy, you might want to try out Jagged Alliance 2. It’s available on Steam, so you could be commanding a mercenary squadron through a third-world country in a matter of minutes! And, perhaps, it will build your appetite for the mythical third installment.
Do you think Jagged Alliance 3 will make it to full release? Were you a fan of the original games in the series?
