If there’s one thing that Apple is good at, it’s identifying what the fans want. They might not deliver it in a timely manner, like picture messaging for the iPhone, but when they do it eventually get around to including a feature they typically get it right.
Case in point with the next iteration of the iPad, which we have now learned may be called the iPad HD, and will feature one of Apple’s most exciting pieces of mobile tech: the retina display. However, this retina display isn’t just a visual upgrade, it could very well be a visual revolution.
After Apple, to many fans’ chagrin, revealed that the iPad 2 would not be sporting the same retina display as the iPhone 4, most figured that it was an absolute must for the iPad 3, and according to Venture Beat it’s in there. However, what they weren’t anticipating is just how impactful the retina display might be on the tablet market.
With the retina display at the ready, this iPad HD would be capable of delivering 1080p video – a first for any tablet on the market. It wouldn’t simply be an improvement over the iPad 2; it would actually blow its predecessor out of the water.
Just think about the types of visuals that the iPad 2 is capable of delivering at the moment, and then think about them in 1080p. By the mere inclusion of 1080p capabilities games like Infinity Blade and forthcoming services like OnLive become that much more tantalizing. Not to say that the iPad HD has the capabilities of becoming a handheld console to rival the PS Vita or the 3DS right out of the gate, but the potential is certainly there.
Aside from the retina display however, not much is known about the inner workings of the iPad HD as far as if it will be featuring any new tech, but all that should change on Wednesday, when it is believed that Apple will unveil the thing.
What do you think about the iPad HD sporting a 1080p display? Is that going to negatively impact the price, but positively impact the appeal to developers?

Can’t wait until tomorrow, I’m ready to see what they have up their sleeves. Whatever it is I’m sure it’ll be awesome and will make the haters hate even more, atleast it will give them something to do
I’ve never, not once, looked at my iPad and thought, the screen isn’t sharp or clear enough. Not oneve. Never.
This is an upgrade for the sake of an upgrade.
Me either, I’m not gonna upgrade from my 2 regardless but I still wanna see what they offer but I’m sure it’ll be more than just a retina display.
Oh I’m sure it will be more, but I it would have to be something incredibly special to convince me to upgrade from something that has nothing wrong with it.
Cool, but unnecessary IMO. If you want Full HD, then just buy a nice 40-60″ HDtv.
The iPad (as I see it) is already crisp and clear enough (the resolution is fantastic as well).
So… it’s a nice feature for those who’ll be buying their first iPad, but for those who already own an iPad 2, I don’t think it’s enough reason to upgrade.
Cant wait till tomorrow. I have the original iPad, so the 3 should be a giant leap. I thought the display was good on the original, so this hopefully will have the wow factor for me.
I think apple should stop this every yr crap… Milking your consumers is not a good way to get others who don’t like your product to stay away…. Put it all in there and charge double the price fine but don’t expect to have people shell out over 700$ for what should be the norm, are you setting the bar apple or just getting to the start of you falling of the tree??? Time will tell … I saw this with iPods , the pads are no different there fore intill apple moves on to next big thing I will wait for this product
Dude thank you at least I am not the only one who thinks the iPad is a useless thing to buy every year for the sake of Upgrading.
To some it is pointless to upgrade every year but to others that’s what they want to do and it’s worth it to them. Plus most sell their old products and don’t have to pay much difference so there’s nothing wrong with it. Also, technology grows pretty quickly, waiting to release a product every 2 years isn’t what any company is trying to do. And Apple is falling off a tree anytime soon, that’s a fact.
“While we won’t no for sure until Wednesday,”
“we won’t no”
“no”
…
HA!
If apple sticks with the A5 then it wont matter if its running in 1080 it wont have enough power to compete. If they slap the A6 in then its going to be a beast….
