Ever since Invincible season 1 ended in April 2021, fans have been eagerly awaiting to see when season 2 would start. For almost two years, the fans have gotten merely tidbits of information as they waited for the show's next season to start but have not received any real concrete info about it.

While there is still no official release date, this latest update means that fans now know they won't have to wait past next year. Vernon Sanders, Head of Amazon Studios, has announced that Invincible season 2 will be on its way sometime in 2023.

Steven Weintraub of Collider revealed in an exclusive interview he had with Sanders that it had been confirmed from the latter that the next season of the show would come out next year. "At first, Sanders tried to play coy and told us, '2023 is going to be a great year for people.' However, when we pressed on and asked for a direct confirmation that new episodes would premiere in 2023, Sanders gave us a resounding 'yes.' It’s official, then. Invincible is coming back in 2023 for Season 2. The question now is when new episodes will finally be released because we can’t wait to see what happens next on the show."

Thus far, the show has only had eight episodes, but given what the final montage of season 1 demonstrated before cutting to black, it's hard to imagine the show not expanding its story going forward to the point where it would require more episodes per season than eight. Especially since it's based on a graphic novel that, unlike most comics, had a definitive conclusion. Considering the show took some creative liberties compared to the comic - Debbie Grayson had a bigger role in the show than in the comic as an example - it really is hard to see them not having more episodes for their future seasons.

If that's where it goes, then hopefully, it will all be worth the wait. Invincible really stood out to audiences because it took the superhero concept to a level of brutality that similar franchises in that genre don't dare try. Like anyone else would be in his shoes, Mark Grayson was excited to get his superpowers but learned pretty quickly that such a line of work is not as fun as it sounds. Not only will you not be able to save everyone, but you are more likely than not going to lose, and when you do, you are going to lose badly. Grayson learned that lesson multiple times throughout the first season.

However, despite the trauma he endures both as a hero and at home, what makes Grayson special above all else is not his powers but his will. Even when his own father, who Mark had just discovered was a soldier in a tyrannical alien empire set to take over the earth, was beating him within an inch of his life to get his point across, Mark still hadn't lost faith that his father had grown out of being a tyrant and learned to value life through the ways of humanity. Since the show basically said that what happened in season 1 was only the tip of the iceberg, who knows how much longer Mark will be able to keep that up in its next season?

Invincible season 1 can currently be streamed on Amazon Prime.
