Spyro and Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac Games releases a teaser trailer for their mysterious new project, which will enjoy a full reveal on Thursday, January 28th.

Insomniac Games is keeping busy. Not only is the company developing a remake of the original Ratchet & Clank and the Oculus Rift exclusive Edge of Nowhere, but the developer is already teasing its next project. So far, just a teaser trailer has been released, asking fans to return to Insomniac's YouTube channel on January 28th to "dive deeper."

The teaser, entitled "What's Next?", pans down from an submerged Insomniac Games logo to a look at some underwater plants, jellyfish, and oddly out of place man-made structures. This includes gears inside of rocks, Easter Island-esque statues, and chains that appear to travel down a hole in the ocean floor.

The trailer ends by challenging players to "dive deeper" on January 28th at 8:30am CT. Watch the teaser trailer below, and then speculate away:

It's tough to gauge exactly what Insomniac is teasing with this trailer, as it really could be anything. One thing that we may be able to assume is that whatever game the company is teasing, it is likely a brand new IP. The underwater theme doesn't really mesh well with any of the company's previous projects, so unless there's a new underwater-focused Ratchet & Clank game in the works, it's safe to say that the title will follow brand new characters.

If the trailer is indicative of the art style of the project, then it will likely be smaller in scale when compared to the other two games the company currently has in development. Insomniac may be more well known for their large-scale 3D games, but the company has also dabbled in smaller, casual projects in the past, and it seems like this mysterious game could fall under a similar umbrella.

What's much harder to guess is this game's target platform or platforms. There once was a time when Insomniac Games was completely faithful to the PlayStation brand, but recent years have seen the studio branch out onto other systems. For example, Insomniac developed Sunset Overdrive, one of the Xbox One's most high profile exclusives of 2014, and as previously mentioned, Insomniac's first VR game, Edge of Nowhere, is currently an Oculus Rift exclusive.

Perhaps this new game from Insomniac is an underwater virtual reality game for PlayStation VR. Maybe it's a 2D platformer for multiple platforms. At this point, it's anyone's guess, but luckily we will only have to wait two more days to find out more about the next mysterious project from Insomniac Games.

The next project from Insomniac Games currently has no announced name, release date, or platforms, but all of that may be revealed on this coming Thursday, January 28th.
