‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’ Release Date and New Trailer Revealed

Sep 22, 2012 by

In the weeks leading up to E3 2012 there were a ton of surprises revealed and teased — including Star Wars 1313 and what would eventually become Splinter Cell: Blacklist — but one game stood out among the rest, especially for comic book fans. Dubbed Injustice: Gods Among Us – a misleading title if there ever was one – this newest game from NetherRealm Studios promised to be a brutal brawler much in the same vein as NetherRealm’s extremely popular Mortal Kombat series, but featuring DC Comics’ superheroes and villains as its fighters.

However, when we finally got a chance to see the game firsthand at E3, there was still no clear indication as to when gamers might actually get to play it. NetherRealm had already put together quite the eclectic cast of characters – including fan favorites like Batman, Superman, The Flash, and Solomon Grundy – but there was still a few questions left unanswered.

Finally, though, we know when Injustice: Gods Among Us will be releasing, and it’s actually not that far off. NetherRealm revealed at TGS (Tokyo Game Show) this week that the game will be hitting store shelves in April of next year.

This, of course, provides plenty of time for NetherRealm to further bolster the Injustice roster with some of fans’ oft-requested characters. Prior to some of the more exciting reveals like Nightwing and Cyborg, our own Andrew Dyce put together a wish list of characters we’d like to see in the game. So hopefully if the developer is going to continue rolling out reveals with some regularity, we hope they consider a few, if not all, of our potential selections.

As far as the game is concerned, fans should know that while Injustice comes from the same lineage and developer as Mortal Kombat, it has been decidedly toned down. There won’t be bloody fatalities like those featured in the revamped Mortal Kombat 9, but there will be plenty of intense superhero violence however.

As the trailer above showcases, this game wants to emphasize the strengths (literally) of each member of the DC universe. Just listen to the game’s sound design – if that isn’t the definition of bone crunching then I don’t know what is.

Injustice Gods Among Us Release Date

It has yet to be revealed by the folks at Warner Bros. or NetherRealm but the trailer also seems to hint that Kevin Conroy will be reprising his iconic role as Batman’s voice. The guy is the voice of Batman for a lot of fans, so it makes sense that NetherRealm would seek him out.

Additionally, if my ears aren’t deceiving me, it sounds like Nolan North might be voicing The Flash. The Nathan Drake voice actor has been a staple of video games for quite a while now, and hopefully his turn as the wisecracking speedster delivers a few notable one-liners if nothing else.

Hopefully more Injustice: Gods Among Us are right around the corner, including potential confirmation about who will be voicing these superheroes and villains.

Are you ready for Injustice: Gods Among Us to hit store shelves? Any characters NetherRealm should really focus on including in the game?

Injustice: Gods Among Us releases in April 2013 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U.

  1. I don’t like the color theme. It’s a little overly gray and gritty for a superhero fighting game, even one that’s supposed to be gritty. It detracts from the flavor.

  2. I wish Harley quinn looked more like the real harley quinn.

    • I wish Batman looked more like the real Batman, you know, the one from thirties. I miss those days…

      • It’s GR’s fault. It seems that posting comments on a mobile device doesn’t work very well. When you post a comment, GR says that it didn’t go through or something, so you post it again and again.

        • So only hit reply once. It still goes through, even if you get the error.

  5. The faces need work across the board.

  6. Great. Another title releasing in the massive tsunami of games that’s coming early next year. Hold on to your wallets everybody!
