Only a few short weeks after the release of NetherRealm Studios' latest DC Comics-inspired fighter, Injustice: Gods Among Us, fans unearthed code that outright revealed the four DLC characters that would be available post-launch. Recent rumors suggest that further DLC characters are also in development (and not included as part of the game's season pass deal), but for the time being, gamers will have to get their superhero (or villain) fix with Lobo, Batgirl, Scorpion, and most recently, the notorious General Zod.

As of this week, Zod (aka Dru-Zod) is officially available to Injustice: Gods Among Us season pass holders or as a standalone $4.99 download.

For anyone who didn't get a chance to see the character in this summer's Superman movie reboot, Man of Steel, NetherRealm has produced a story trailer (above) that explains the General Zod backstory.

In case you missed our prior coverage, watch the General Zod gameplay reveal below:

Even though all of the DLC characters are fun additions to the core Injustice: Gods Among Us roster, fans have (so far) been mostly underwhelmed by the reveals. Characters like Zod and Batgirl are fun comic book favorites, but their similarities to Superman and Batman (along with Nightwing), respectively, have left plenty of faithful Injustice players craving a bit more variety. Similarly, while Scorpion is a clever nod to the studio's Mortal Kombat roots, gamers have understandably argued that the choice to pass-up fan-favorite DC characters in favor of the MK fighter was a slight to season pass holders (a similar criticism was raised when the studio passed-up fan-favorite MK characters to include Freddy Krueger in Mortal Kombat 9). As a result, Lobo is about the only DLC offering (so far) that has received mass approval - so it'll be interesting to see how gamers respond to Zod now that he's playable.

After a solid showing in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel (played by Michael Shannon), Zod is certainly positioned for success as a Injustice DLC character - especially for gamers who also intend to pick-up that Man of Steel-inspired Superman skin.

Injustice Man of Steel Skin Zod DLC

NetherRealm is also using the arrival of Zod as an opportunity to open up availability on several costume packs that were previously pre-order/special edition exclusives - most notably the much-sought-after New 52 pack.

Here's the full list of DLC offerings made available this week:

  • New 52s Skins ($2.99)
  • Blackest Night Pack 2 ($2.99)
  • Gods Among Us Earth 2 Pack ($2.99)
  • General Zod ($4.99, Free with Season Pass)
  • The Man Of Steel Pack — Superman ($0.99)

Additionally, we have good news for Injustice: Gods Among Us players on Wii U - as we have now confirmed that, after months of no-shows, the entire DLC catalogue has arrived on the Wii U eShop. As a result, Nintendo gamers finally have access to the extra characters, costumes, and S.T.A.R. Labs missions that Xbox 360 and PS3 owners have been enjoying since launch - such as the Red Son Pack, Arkham City Skin Pack, and Zombie mode, among others.

Interestingly, the Wii U eShop offerings include some yet-to-be released DLC add-ons that could be en route for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in the near future:

  • Ame-Comi Pack (Previously a Japan exclusive) - Catwoman, Wonder Woman, and Harley.
  • Lockdown Pack (Previously only available as iOS unlocks) - Lockdown Superman, Batman Beyond, New 52 Green Lantern, Knightfall Bane, and Arkham City Harley.

Note, while Flashpoint Batman, Luchador Bane, Containment Suit Doomsday, and Classic Ares are listed as free downloads through the Wii U eShop, they were already added as complimentary skins for the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles (through the various DLC pack compatibility updates).

Martin Manhunter DLC Injustice Gods Among Us

Now that the majority of announced DLC is available to all players, it'll be interesting to see what else NetherRealm is still developing for the game. Certainly, they'll be saving some high profile characters for an inevitable Injustice: Gods Among Us sequel, but plenty of names on our list of "25 Characters That Need to Be in Injustice: Gods Among Us" could make an appearance as DLC. Not to mention, the Martian Manhunter tease at the end of the Scorpion gameplay trailer still has us wondering if J'onn J'onzz isn't the next character set to join the roster.
