Timing, they say, is everything. Yesterday’s announcement that Green Arrow is joining the ranks of playable heroes in NetherRealm Studios’ Injustice: Gods Among Us leads nicely to tonight’s series premier of Arrow on The CW. Likewise, with New York Comic Con 2012 kicking off tomorrow (and Injustice making an appearance), today presents the perfect opportunity to unveil the game’s box art.
Cue publisher Warner Bros. Interactive, which did exactly that this morning. Cover art has been issued for all three versions of Injustice: Gods Among Us (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U), and in addition to depicting a knock-down drag-out brawl between Superman and Batman, the artwork reveals two previously unannounced characters: The Joker and Green Lantern.
Scratch two more candidates off Game Rant’s list of 25 characters that need to be in Injustice: Gods Among Us (specifically, numbers 1 and 16). Once the cover art started to make the rounds this morning, NetherRealm Studios Creative Director, Ed Boon, took to Twitter to officially confirm that Green Lantern and The Joker are in the game (he had actually teased both reveals yesterday – Green Lantern with a YouTube clip of Kermit the Frog singing “Rainbow Connection,” Joker with a snippet of lyrics from the Steve Miller Band’s “The Joker”).
RT @pimp_sanchez @noobde so then… Green Lantern, and The Joker?EB: Yup!

Now that we know Joker is in the game, the obvious question is: who’s voicing him? The best case scenario is that Mark Hamill takes the job, though it’s tough to gauge how willing he is to do so. Hamill appeared to be done with the character following his performance in Batman: Arkham City – he tweeted as much last October – though he subsequently indicated that he might be open to playing The Joker once again. Will Hamill announce his return to the role during NYCC? What do you think?
It’s probably too much to expect any more Injustice character announcements at Comic Con – three in one week is pretty substantial, particularly for a game that doesn’t release for another six months. Then again, you never know. In response to fan inquiries on Twitter, Boon has indicated that both Lex Luthor (“There’s always a chance we will be bringing Lexy back”) and Lobo (“Lobo is definitely in consideration”) are possibilities for the game, and where better than NYCC to officially announce them?
Ranters, if Hamill isn’t voicing The Joker in Injustice, who should do the honors? Leave your suggestions in the comments below.
Update: Boon has just released the first in-game shot of Green Lantern and The Joker. Check it out below.
Injustice: Gods Among Us releases April, 2013, for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U.

Awesome. This is gonna be one hell of a game, I hope.
Jeff, that article about Hamill going back was done in June, and Hamill tweeted he was done with Joker in October. Yeah, he could come back, but that article gets brought up way too much when its easily contradicted.
Fair point – link removed.
Good news, but I don’t like the new faces of the characters. Joker looks terrible, as does Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Flash. And the box art is pretty bad. They should’ve got rid of the 5 close-ups and made the action shot on the bottom take up the whole thing. That would look way more cool.
I agree with you about the box art.But then again don’t let the box art stop you from purchasing this game. As we have seen from the gameplay trailers this looks like it’s gonna be a epic DC fighting game.
Wow the Joker just looks..awful. I want to try and main with him but I dont know now the he looks like frickin pinocchio. I cannot wait for this game but that is seriously the worst portrayal of Joker I have ever seen.
No one else having flashbacks to the awful Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe game when they see this?
I just think this game is kind of laughable – straight up fight between Superman and Harley Quinn? Really? How is that a fight??
On that note, I love how they added a bit of (obviously) Kryptonite in Batman’s hand on the cover. So wonder what he does with that Kryptonite move on other characters…
Boon has already explained that everything will tie together when you play the story.
If this box art is the “reveal” of the Joker and Green Lantern, can’t we safely assume that it would also be the reveal of Green Arrow? I mean he is lying there lifelessly on the ground between Superman and Batman. Plus, with Arrow airing this week on television, wouldn’t they want to build some hype around that character? Is it just me?
Disregard previous comment, as I am now seeing a Game Rant article with that exact piece of news. Should really start at the bottom of a website, and work up rather than down. Lesson learned..
That Joker looks a lot like Cesar Romero’s Joker…
I think they did on purpose
this game looks awesome
Don’t get mad at how all of them look. Believe me if they were stuck in the same tights and Spandex it wouldn’t look interesting to the public eye. They look better than before don’t let a look fool u from getting da game. Plus look at da quality ur paying for
*******THE. And its not the costumes that are the problem, its their faces.
Joker looks like Tim Curray from home alone 2
I dont care what there faces look like I just car about how they fight and so far green arrow and batman look pretty solid
