With both Infinity Ward and Treyarch Corporation taking their turns at producing Activision’s super successful Call of Duty franchise in unison (Modern Warfare is Infinity Ward, World at War is Treyarch) many would have often thought the two forces collaborate with one another.
But they don’t.
Infinity Ward Creative Strategist Robert Bowling revealed that the two design studios indeed act like completely non-related studios, focusing on their own productions and work schedules, placing zero focus on collaborating efforts inter-studio:
“The teams are completely separate. And our design schedules and our design philosophies are completely different tracks. It’s not like they might be leapfrogging in terms of franchise but the design state of mind from the teams at Infinity Ward and Treyarch are completely different. We don’t work together, we don’t collaborate. The teams are very focused on what we’re doing and we really don’t let what happens in another game impact that.”
With Modern Warfare the dominant seller out of the two, it’s interesting that Treyarch hasn’t tried to form some kind of allegiance with Infinity Ward. To each their own, I suppose, is quite the literal phrase to use here. On the other side of the coin, Infinity Ward is lacking in their co-operative gaming experience compared to Treyarch’s 4-player co-op campaign (Modern Warfare 2 has no co-op campaign) and 4-player Nazi Zombies mode.
Which company do you prefer: Infinity Ward or Treyarch? Do you think they should collaborate, or is it best for them to maintain running a separate ship?

Ah yes, I know someone I run into from time to time that works for Infinity Ward. He would get so frustrated when people thought that they had anything to do with the Treyarch COD games.
Probably the only reason I knew about any lack of collaboration between the two studios.
Well it is pretty beneficial to us that they don’t collaborate because it means we get a new CoD every year. If they were to work together it would be pretty cool (Nazi Terrorists anyone?). I think Infinity Ward could benefit from learning about 4-player co-op though.
I love MW2 but not having important triple A features that all competing games do (let alone, previous franchise installments) is a big negative for me.
Well, not a fan of WWII shooters, way too many of them, but in terms of the amount of effort put into the games, I think WaW’s coop and other multiplayer features that MW2 lacks and, as Infinity Ward has made clear, doesn’t care to have with the attitude that if someone doesn’t like it, don’t buy it, I would have to say that I like Treyarch’s approach more, regardless of what all the craze is about now with MW2. Especially if they are trying for the whole “we are just as bad as the terrorists” type angle with their story…
