Here’s some news that may get fans of the record-breaking event release of Modern Warfare 2 a little disappointed; According to an inside source of VG247, Infinity Ward will not be making Modern Warfare 3 as per the Activision tradition of semi-annual releases alternating between Treyarch and Infinity Ward.
They refer to an older quote from Infinity Ward headmaster Rob Bowling where he says they’re not sure what they’re working on next (when the answer should be clear). They continue to report that their source says a Canadian studio would be handling MW3 and that another source points to the new addition to Activision and Call of Duty in the form of Sledgehammer Games.
This is all conjecture at this point but I really dig the way the series is currently set up with Infinity Ward handling the insanely popular Modern Warfare series (which needs another follow-up by the way) and Treyarch handling the World at War series which can cover historical battles (Vietnam rumored as the next landscape to be digitally destroyed).
My thoughts were that Sledgehammer could be handling one of the two places left to go: the future or the MMO genre. We still don’t know what Sledgehammer is working on and there’s nothing official yet on what’s coming out this year from Treyarch.
I’d like to see things continue as they have been with Sledgehammer bringing something new to the franchise. That being said, whatever Infinity Ward does next, we know it will be awesome.

Outrage I say!
It would be crazy for them to be taking a break from the franchise at this point – though, with all of the studio turmoil in the industry right now, anything is certainly possible.
I think any Call of Duty fan out there knew that the next installment wouldn’t be MW3. It would go back to a World War game and then, in another years time, we would see MW3. However, this news that Infinity Ward may not continue the franchise is a terrible idea. They started it, let them finish it. I mean, I know that Activision will get some company to keep “true” to the formula that IW has set up, but come on! NO other company can replicate the story and set pieces that IW made. Sure, they may come close or try to to mimic the style, but that usually doesn’t bode well for anyone. If there is any truth to this rumor then I will be very upset.
Well this is what i heard. There wil be a Call of Duty MMO and Infinity Ward is making it and is set p for a 2011-2012 fiscal year release. So the game may not be realeased in November as usual. But if this Sledgehammer Games develepors do make Modern Warfare 3 then we can expect a 2011 release date leavin IW more time to work on CoD MMO. Lets jst pray it isnt an exclusive like IW recently reported that the expansion of MW2 will be an XBOX 360 exclusive, leavin us PS3 gamers pissed the fuck off. I hope the CoD MMO has up to more than jst 18 layers in a game. I hope they have up to like 72 in a game with like 32 maps and heaps off guns and we can choose between modern guns and ww2 guns and there will be more prestige so like we can prestige up to 20 or something and the levels can be up to 85 or something. Oh yeh and we can customize our charactyer aswell as our guns that would be sick
This is very werid, in my mind. Infinity Ward has started a epic game saga. They should make MW3, and that’s it. I don’t understand why not. This just unreal
so, infinity ward wrote the story of MW and MW2 and no SOMEONE ELSE is goin to write part 3? Ifninity ward is THE BEST developer for MW3!! (and the best developer for call of duty) and isn’t “modern warfare” licensed by Infinity ward? so what are they gonna call it? Call of duty Modern battles? and what about the names of the characters?
Well, Kirgi-Dog is wrong on the exclusive DLC to 360. It is a TIMED-EXCLUSIVE which means it will come on 360 a few weeks before PS3 then eventually for PC.
On the other hand, IW should end the damn MW series with MW3 themselves. Not some other crappy developer. IW is the best COD and probably the best FPS developer ever. They should end the MW series. I hope they don’t give it to some other studio. I just want one more MW made by IW to end the series and that’s it. Maybe, just maybe a MW4 is possible but after MW3 the series would be used up like Halo. I will be pissed if another dev studio took over MW3. IW listens to its fans so maybe via Twitter they will get persuaded to make MW3.
BEST THING EVER
Anyone who’s played the PC version should hate IW with a burning passion of a million tactical nukes at this point.
No dedicated servers, no console, no mods, hackers everywhere, unreliable pings/hosts, possibly the worst matchmaking system I have ever seen, ABSOLUTELY NO RECOURSE FOR ANY PROBLEM WHATSOEVER, IW has taken EVERY step possible to make this game as hard on the PC player as they possibly can. It could have been so good, too.
Good riddance I say.
Come on Infinity Ward, finish of MW series first then knock yourselves out with “something new”. Make MW3 the longest and the best MW yet. And don't let Sledgehammer Games do it. Do it yourselves. Close up MW and then make something new. We all want something new, but a most COD fans(consoles) don't want it without MW's closure.
