Back in the summer of 2009, Sucker Punch Production released a game known as inFamous for the PlayStation 3. The game was a unique combination of the sandbox-style of gaming most commonly associated with the Grand Theft Auto series, along with superpowers and a morality system, which helped it to stand on its own and become one of the chief titles for the PS3. It was soon announced that a sequel to the game was on the way, expected to arrive sometime this year.

Amazon.com may have accidentally released a very important bit of information about inFamous 2 today, namely the existence of a special edition of the game. The title appeared on the website, listed as the Hero Edition, and priced at $99.99. It has since been taken down, but not before word was leaked out in regards to just what this Hero Edition is.

The description listed the package containing not only the game in question, but also a statue of the main character, Cole MacGrath, a replica sling pack, a super voucher that listed various in-game bonuses (named the Lightning Hook Power, Electrocution Grenade Power, Kessler Skin, and 24K Gold Amp Weapon Variant), a mini issue of the inFamous comic book by DC Comics, and the Official inFamous 2 Soundtrack.

While all those goodies might be enough to warrant attention, perhaps more important is that Amazon listed the game as having a release date of May 24, 2011. No official information about the game's release date has been released by Sony, which might explain in part why the listing was taken down so soon after its appearance. Though it could be just an error on Amazon's part, it could also mean that the game may be arriving in time for the second anniversary of the original inFamous.

What do you think? Does this mean that the game is on its way within a few months? Or could it be earlier, if this is just for the Hero Edition? Speaking of which, would you be willing to spend close to $100 dollars for a few extras to go along with your game?

inFamous 2 is due sometime 2011, exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
