Ubisoft turned a few heads with the humor-laden title Immortals: Fenyx Rising. Released on December 3, 2020, the title offered an open-world view into a world of Greek mythology with an absurd narrative and the occasional leaning on the fourth wall. Now, Ubisoft is poised to invite gamers further into mythology with its new DLC Myths of the Eastern Realm.

The use of Greek mythology in video games is prevalent as developers dive into the wealth of tales from millennia ago. Hades featured Greek gods brought to life with finely-tuned roguelike action, Red Dead Redemption referenced Icarus in both iterations, and Assassin's Creed: Odyssey brought many of these tales to bear with poignant storytelling. These stories defined an entire age that built the foundation of modern-day storytelling.

Yet, Ubisoft is primed to reach beyond Greecian mythology into Chinese mythology, offering a new DLC called Immortals: Fenyx Rising - Myths of the Eastern Realm. The DLC is more than a mere content pack that further fleshes out the story of Fenyx. Players will take on the role of Ku the Cloud Walker in a new world, replete with gilded dragons, ancient demons, and the humor that Immortals: Fenyx Rising has made a name of itself with. The DLC seems a promising step for Ubisoft that few have realized as a possibility.

The DLC lasts around eight hours, offering an interesting reskin of Immortals: Fenyx Rising that explores Chinese mythology, which could end up elevating the base title. Exploring mythology from around the world, presuming Ubisoft is keen to continue the trend, could turn Immortals: Fenyx Rising into an outstanding platform for cultural appreciation around the world. For some, the opportunity to cavort across Chinese mythology will be more than enough to rekindle interest in the title. For others, it may be a case of repetition.

Immortals Fenyx Rising - Myths of the Eastern Realm starts off with players taking the role of Ku the Cloud Walker, holding the same abilities and functions that Fenyx offered. Puzzles and combat offer much of what the base game did, which bodes well for fans that simply couldn't get enough from the base game. For gamers that are expecting the content to bring in new experiences, they may be disappointed. The DLC is wrapped into the ongoing season pass of Immortals: Fenyx Rising, but for those that already hold the pass, it may well be worth investigating further.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising is available now on Luna, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
