Homefront has been out a little over a week now, and some gamers have had their share of negative experiences with THQ’s patriotic shooter. Since release, Kaos Studios has been hard at work on fixing these issues so that gamers all over can finally get to enjoying the game that they hyped so much.
Homefront‘s first week on the shelves was filled with news both good an bad. First came the reports that THQs stock had taken a massive 20% dive during the first day of the game’s release, a sudden dip attributed to the relatively poor reviews that the game had garnished from media outlets. Our own Homefront review scored the game a 3.5/5, a respectable score for the first game in a new IP.
Surprisingly, this did not deter THQ from reporting rather positive news in the days that followed. Shortly after news started to circulate that THQ’s stock was in trouble, THQ was pleased to announce that in its first day on the shelves, Homefront had sold 375,000 copies of the game. Today, THQ sent another press release with updated sales figures, indicating that Homefront has now sold through 1 million units around the world, from shipping 2.4 million units to date.
Meanwhile, reports have been circulating that a number of players are having trouble with the game freezing on the PS3 and Xbox 360, with a small group of Xbox 360 owners reporting that their copy of the game would not even load to the main menu. This prompted Kaos Studios, Homefront’s developer, to announce that they were working on a number of patches to be released for the console versions of the game as well as the PC version.
The patch news doesn’t stop there as Kaos has revealed that they’ve submitted patches for review to Sony and Microsoft, and they hope to get them live to players as soon as possible. A number of details regarding what the patches will entail have also been released and are included below.
The Homefront Team has been working around the clock identifying and fixing issues surrounding Multiplayer functionality. We want to give everyone an update on what issues are known, how we are working on them, and when you can expect to see fixes available for download.
Important Notes:
- Xbox 360: The Homefront team is finishing up our first Critical Title Update that will address the Profile Corruption issue (also known as the ‘Freeze’ bug), as this is our highest priority. We are also including a fix for multiplayer connectivity and ping time issues, where players are being sent to distant server locations at the expense of performance. We expect this update to be submitted to Microsoft really soon and we will be working with them very closely to get this approved and deployed as quickly as possible.
- PlayStation 3: We are also working on several multiplayer connectivity and freeze issues on this platform as well. Many Homefront issues occur equally across all consoles but the PlayStation 3 Comprehensive Patch will be sent to SONY as soon as the issues are resolved.
- PC: The PC patching process is a much more “real-time” situation, given they do not need to go through any kind of certification process and fixes are being made and delivered as soon as they are resolved.
Homefront Update Plans
Update 1: Xbox 360 Critical Title Update
- Scheduled for Microsoft Submission ASAP
- Fixing the Xbox Live Profile Corruption ‘Freeze’ Issue
- Fix for players being matched in distant server locations
Update 2: Additional Game Issues Fixes
- Playstation 3 Update will release as soon as fixes are ready.
- Xbox 360 will submit as soon as Update 1 is released live.
- Fixes include:
o Multiplayer Freezing (affecting X360 & PS3)
o Experience and Statistics Resets (affecting X360 & PS3)
o Improving Party Matchmaking & Joining with Friends (affecting X360 & PS3)
o Fixing the Beacon Error (affecting X360 only)
o Correcting inconsistent Leaderboards data (affecting X360 & PS3)
Strangely, the hacking that has been plaguing the PC version of the game has yet to be addressed, but hopefully this will be an issue that Kaos will bring up with their next announcement for the title. It will be especially important as multiplayer is expected to drive sales of the title as both THQ and Kaos aim to have the title sell more than 2 million copies in an effort to break even on the new IP.
Homefront was released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 last week in North America and Europe.

the one reason why i wont be getting the game again is b/c of the freeze issue, if a studio cant get something as simple as that right then they dont deserve my time or money which is a shame b/c both my brother and i really liked the MP.
but yet you would buy call of duty i bet? even though it had a terrible first week down to connections and map circulation, which affected everyone…. *sigh*
did i say that ? stop making f***ing assumptions and thinking you know how everyone on the internet thinks. i for one have never bothered with any CoD besides #4 and i didn’t even play that for long (less then a week worth of MP).
i prefer games which have emphasis on team work and strategic gameplay, such as BC and crysis, but like i said, if the games broken, i wont hold onto it for long or support the studio even if they plan on fixing the issue. they should have properly tested the game for these things before hyping everyone up and then sending them to a black screen.
oh that is so true every single word!!!
who are you directing your comment towards ?
How big will this patch be? Because I’m doing a Steam download atm that is 3GB for Homefront.
This game let me down big time, horrible matchmaking, cant ever join a match i play 2 games in 2 hours, horrible horrible, transitioning back to bops, lame ass game, thats what happens when u release something early, ur stocks are dropping, sales should be horrible, updates are taking to long.
its been over a week and still no patch for the damn freeze bug/glitch, though that is partially microsoft’s fault for having to pend the f***ing patch through.
also did anyone know that game patches on xbox cost the studio $50k… my bet is they want to fix as many issues within one patch to avoid paying for multiple patches which will in turn cost them an arm and a leg (considering they aren’t selling insane amounts).
man I got an update and it didnt do anything for the freeze up after the kaos banner
same here…. does anyone know what to do?
On the contrary, sales have been rather strong. The title has sold over a million copies already, which would suggest that the 2 million mark is going to be within reach. I’m actually tempted to invest in THQ since the over-reaction of other investors has dropped the value of their stock.
well said sir, well said. Fu#*ing wasted my time playing it.. ERRRR
please fix this problem soon, oh and the rank reset. got to rank 45 then froze on me. reset my ps, rank 1 ???? oh the words i said aint even in the dictionary!!!!!, maybe it could rival bigger games like COD – BFBC – MAG, if the flipping game worked!!!!!
there are alote of people hacking at the moment alote of people useing aim bots. it seems like the infentry run super fast
havnt noticed nufin at all like that…. may ur jus crap *sigh*
My screen went black on the 22 march. Right after the kaos banner. Total system freeze. Recieved an update on the 24 of march….and it didnt do jack! What was the update for?????
I dont even think that the local game stop will take this game on trade, to many copies have been sold back!! Terrible multiplayer, i mean why release a game that isnt even playable? I bought it for the multiplayer and frankly i can live with the crappy graphics and clunky gameplay, but not freezing up EVERY time i play. the armory freezes me up, backing out of a game lobby freezes me up, a game with this many issues should NEVER HAVE BEEN RELEASED, for now, a complete waste of 65 hard earned dollars. Frustrated and waiting on someone to copy COD and make a good multiplayer game.
oh, and 20 minutes online, froze up twice, havent even begun to play a game yet, why do i still try?? I hate black ops and its LAG thats why!!
ok ok, i give up, games played=0 times froze up=4 time wasted, 30min that i will never get back
Bought the game on 18th March (UK release) Played a few hours, got kicked out of MP after 20 min. Now cannot even load game due to freezing @ Kaos logo. £40 = approx 3 hrs play, owned game 168 hrs lol
Sadly I still can’t play with my friends on xbox live plAying homefront. The games server issues make it impossible to have friends play or even get into a game of team deathmatch on your own. Thq needs to fix this right away. I don’t understand how they could plan for 2 million people in server capacity minimum from day 1. People don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan and this is a classic example of a company who wanted to see numbers first before investment which is ultimately killing their fanbase and customers.
The fact they delayed the release because they were worried about people buying dragon age and pokemon shows how confident they were in it.. I had played the game for less than 2 hours before I couldn’t wait to trade in. And when I did, less than 48hours after release, GAME offered me a measly £25, luckily HMV game me £10 more so I could wait for Crysis. Can’t wait for battlefield 3.
The thing everyone has to remember is that when this patch is released the game is gonna be awesome because lets admit the game is pretty good aside from the issues but i would rather wait for this patch than have to play that terrible game called black ops
i played the campain on released day (UK) then i played about the other nite and i could not get it to load. it keeps freezeing after the koas sign then it goes on a black screen. i really liked the campian but could not of played online but i can wait playing crysis 2 =)
did anyone else get an update on the 24 march. I did, I had the black freeze right after the kaos banner. I downloaded the update and it didnt do jack… Anyone else livin this problem?
this game is awesome if of course the server bugs are fixed but im upset about a different subject. i cant stand and believe that not only me and my tv but my friends cant read the text on the display, i cant even play the campaign and “READ” the subtitles. i dont want to take this game back i think it has great potential, all im saying is i wanna be able to read all thats on the sreen, have tried hd and non hd tvs and still cant read the text on the game please please fix this game should own if yall could just fix the small but important things. pz
i bought this on release day (UK) i traded in 5 games for it and ive been very disappointed. what ive played is fun and enjoyable but it takes me an hour or so to find a game and usually it freezes when i do. ive got up every morning and checked to see if the patch has been released and still nothing im going to give it til friday and if its not fixed im sellin it and buyin some mary jane to help me forget about this bs. PLEASE HURRY UP AND RELEASE THE PATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was really looking forward to this but after hearing about no hardcore mode’s and no 1st person inside the vehicle view (only exclusive to p.c) and the fact that you have to pay a fee to advance past level 5, im now abit glad i didnt waste any money on Homefront!
Hopefully they get it right for Homefront 2,
still though not adding things to a “next gen game” that should be there in the 1st place and then not stress testing the game for errors and bugs is not very professional for a massive company like THQ,
