As players begin their time with Halo Infinite’ Ranked Arena, the game’s most competitive multiplayer offering at the moment, they will discover that they are designated as “unranked.” However, this designation will change as soon as the fan completes their first 10 matches, as it is then that they will be given their very first rank. That is not a permanent assignment, though, and this guide will detail the order in which players will move through the ranks in Halo Infinite.

Halo Infinite Ranks

To get right to it, there are a total of six rank tiers in Halo Infinite for first-person shooter fans to climb, and the first five of them are split into six divisions each. Here is a list that showcases the order of all of these tiers, with the lowest rank appearing at the top of the list and the highest rank appearing at the bottom:

  • Gold (I-VI)
  • Platinum (I-VI)
  • Diamond (I-VI)
  • Onyx

With respect to how Halo Infinite players can go about advancing through these ranks, performing “better than expected” across numerous matches is the key. While the precise meaning of that requirement is not fully clarified, its implications are fairly easy to understand. Indeed, players that consistently outperform opponents of the same rank should see their own ranks increase, and they should continue to do so until the player reaches their skill ceiling.

Players will not retain their top ranks indefinitely, though, as it is indicated that ranks will reset upon the start of a new season. For those fans that are curious, the current Halo Infinite season, Heroes of Reach, is expected to last until May 2022. That means that players have a significant amount of time to climb the rank tiers, and fans that really hone their skills may even be able to make it all the way to Onyx.

To note, ranks function separately from Halo Infinite’s Battle Pass, which is a progression system that allows players to unlock a variety of rewards. At the time of writing, many fans have expressed concerns about the state of the Battle Pass, suggesting that progression is simply too slow. Developer 343 Industries has indicated that it is looking into this, though no changes have been made just yet. While players wait for potential changes to come, they may want to hop into the Ranked Arena and put their focus on the six rank tiers.

Halo Infinite launches for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on December 8th.
