Rockstar Games unveils the latest update for Grand Theft Auto Online, which adds an intensive parachute-based adversary mode and some brand new wheels.

The streets of Los Santos must be a permanent shade of red, because Rockstar Games has been keeping Grand Theft Auto Online players consistently busy with plenty of free game modes and double income event weekends. The studio certainly isn't showing any signs of slowing down, either: Rockstar Games has just announced a brand new update for Grand Theft Auto Online that adds a brand new adversary mode and a couple of specialized cars into the mix.

While Grand Theft Auto Online already has around thirteen different adversary mode game types that can be assigned by Martin Madrazo, the latest mode sounds like it packs some serious staying power. Entitled Drop Zone, the mode will have squads of players parachuting into a close-knit king of the hill situation, and will stress the importance of teamwork in a game where many players are prone to running solo.

Drop Zone will support four teams of up to sixteen players, meaning absolute carnage is more-or-less the name of the game. The target area that all four squads will be landing on is extremely limited in size (the five available locations are Pillbox Hill, Richman College, Elysian Island, the Mirror Park cul-de-sac, and Sisyphus Theatre), and Rockstar even states that most Drop Zone games will be largely susceptible to huge swings in fortune.

Players will start off with their squad on a high-flying cargobob, and will jump out of the plane and race the other teams in an effort to reach the ground first. Once there, the squads will struggle to be the first to claim and secure a small piece of terra firma, and the first team to hold that area for two non-consecutive minutes will claim the prize.

Benny's Original Motor Works, one of the custom car shops available only within the Grand Theft Auto Online universe, also gets a pretty sweet update in the latest release. Gamers hopping online can head to the virtual store's in-game website, where they will see two new high-end car models, the Karin Sultan and the Bravado Banshee.  The speedy rides can be found in the stock section, and can be upgraded into Super class cars for online races. While the official Rockstar release states that they can compete with top-tier vehicles like the Zentorno and T20, many gamers have recommended avoiding raceways with long straightaways, where the two new cars seem to falter against the reigning champions.

Rockstar also confirmed that the upcoming event weekend would give participating gamers double the intake in terms of in-game money for completing missions, and double the reputation points as well. The studio also teased that gamers will be 'falling in love' with free items in an update next month, so dedicated Grand Theft Auto fans may want to leave some room in their schedule this Valentine's Day.

Now that the Grand Theft Auto Online servers have been consistently functional, it looks like it's smooth sailing for those playing online. Rockstar Games has kept active in terms of suppling plenty of free content, which is a nice juxtaposition to the absolute mystery that is the game's story mode DLC.
