Those of us hoping to roam the streets in the as-of-yet unknown city of Grand Theft Auto 5 will likely have to wait for 2012, says analyst Mike Hikey.
Hickey, an analyst for Janco Partners, based this deduction off of recent Take Two Interactive financial announcements changing the end of their fiscal year to March 31st. This adjustment shows that Take Two is planning on focusing on two major releases for their next year: L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3, as well as the potential release of Duke Nukem Forever. These three releases, the analyst assumes, should be more than enough for the company to turn a healthy profit.
He goes on to estimate that Take Two will likely push out Grand Theft Auto 5 in their 2012-2013 fiscal year, meaning those who believe in the Mayan calendar apocalypse are going to be pretty grumpy about the amount of time they have to play it. In what comes as absolutely no surprise he predicts its going to be huge hit, selling upwards of 16 million copies and procuring 750 million dollars in revenue for the publisher.
Sales will be hugely boosted from the mere fact that when GTA4 came out, there were only 14 million combined Xbox and PS3 consoles in 2008 (was it really that long ago GTA4 came out? I feel old now). In 2010 those digits have reversed and there are 41 consoles in homes across the world, each potentially a customer for Rockstar to dish out some good ol’ offensive content to.
At the end of the day, the important thing is that Hickey’s logic makes sense. As much as it would be amazing to wake up tomorrow and have Nico Bellic’s successor ready to start some mayhem, we’re going to have to wait for the developers at Rockstar to polish the shiny stone into the powerhouse they have a reputation of making. Dan Houser, Vice President of Rockstar Games, had already written a 1,000 page script for the game a year ago, meaning by this time development is likely already ongoing.
What do you think the new Grand Theft Auto will be like? When do you think it’ll be released? We’re excited for the next installment of the series here at Game Rant, so go ahead and tell us how you feel!

it makes sense to see that the title would be pushed back, but for max payne and duke nukem? i really cant see either of those titles being a top 5, let along sell enough to keep gta% from being put together.
I guess there are still some gamers getting through the entire trilogy that was released a few moths ago, but i have a hard time believing that Take Two isnt already hard at work on a guaranteed money maker in gta5.
what about that news we were supose to hear allready. Remember the torn page in the gtabagt version. ‘liberty city is over next stop’?
way to soon imo. the reason the new gta games (IV, TBoGT and TLaD) where so good was because they’re so much better then most modern sandbox games due to smart/realistic AI, nice physics and decent gameplay (though repetitive).
i hope they add everything that made san andreas good in #5.
I’m slightly disappointed, but I have Red Dead to keep me occupied. I kinda hope they implement some of the features in RDR in the new GTA.
I realy hope they do make gta seem as i have every game twice some for pc ps3 and ps2 so its cleer im a fan so rockstar if you are making us wait this long then it best be worth it
gta4 was an awesome game, but because of time and money, it did not have all the fun that san andreas have. Now I hope gta5 will blend vice city with san andreas. So GTA 5 “Rio Heat” is a dream to behold (Hello Rio de Janeiro)
