Green Hell is a game about surviving in an unforgiving rainforest, a place where the player is not welcome. Green Hell's players not only have to keep themselves hydrated and fed but have to survive the amazon's various wildlife.

While players are hunting for their next meal, they'll be trying to avoid plenty of aggressive wildlife, from piranhas to pumas. The only weapons they have to defend themselves are simple tools crafted from their surroundings.

It's not completely hopeless, however. A key tool to surviving a deadly blow from one of Green Hell's enemies comes from the humble armadillo, and its shell.

Hunting Green Hell's Armadillo

Green Hell Crocodile

Before they can start working with a shell, players obviously have to find an armadillo. Currently, there's no set place on the map where they spawn, but players are more likely to find them in areas with heavy vegetation.

It's not currently an aggressive animal, however, so players shouldn't worry too much about taking damage. That being said, if the player doesn't want to directly engage, or they don't have a weapon on hand, they can build a killer trap using 4 logs, 1 long stick, 7 ropes, 1 stick, and 4 small sticks.

Once defeated, the armadillo gives the player armadillo meat and a shell. The meat can spoil, while the shell can wait indefinitely, so the player's focus should be on cooking or drying the meat first.

Using the Armadillo Shell

The main purpose of the armadillo shell is armor. Players can craft armadillo armor using 1 banana leaf, 1 armadillo shell, and 2 ropes.

Armadillo armor isn't the only form of armor in the game. There's also leaf armor, stick armor, bamboo armor, bone armor, and metal armor. It's not even the most convenient to get, considering the player has to hunt for a specific animal instead of using more common ingredients.

It is worth the effort, though. It's an easy form of armor the player can luck into while early in the game. Aside from the shell, it only uses common, readily available items in its recipe.

Bone armor and metal armor are both stronger than it, but each has a drawback. Bone armor requires more ingredients, with a recipe that calls for 3 bones instead of one shell. The metal armor is only available in the late game, requiring access to a mud forge and iron ore.

Green Hell is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
