Rockstar Games announces a new Grand Theft Auto Online event called 'Friends In High Places', which will offer players double GTA$ and RP for completing certain missions.

Grand Theft Auto Online players have had a busy few days as the multiplayer mode's Be My Valentine event wrapped up. Created by Rockstar to celebrate the day of love, the event introduced unlockable t-shirts and a new Adversary Mode called Til Death Do Us Part. It also offered double RP and GTA$ bonuses for those who played the mode on or before February 18 and there was a 50% discount on SMG ammunition too. However, those who missed out on the romantic festivities needn't worry too much as the next GTA Online event offers more chances to bag bonuses.

Called Friends In High Places, players have six days to get double GTA$ and RP for performing specific Contact missions, which should pop up on the player character's iFruit phone. The schedule is listed below:

  • Friday Feb 19: Double GTA$ & RP on all of Simeon's Contact Missions plus Double GTA$ on Simeon's Import/Export requests
  • Saturday Feb 20: Double GTA$ & RP on all of Ron's Contact Missions plus 50% off all Blazers
  • Sunday Feb 21: Double GTA$ & RP on all of Trevor's Contact Missions plus 50% off Jerry Cans
  • Monday Feb 22: Double GTA$ & RP on all of Martin's Contact Missions plus 10% off Stilt Houses
  • Tuesday Feb 23: Double GTA$ & RP on all of Lester's Contact Missions plus 25% off Lester Services
  • Wednesday Feb 24: Double GTA$ & RP on all of Gerald's Contact Missions plus 50% off Micro SMGs and Machine Pistols
GTA Online Friends In High Places event

On Thursday, February 25, however, all of GTA Online's Contact Missions will offer GTA$ and RP. With GTA Online's Lowrider update adding Contact Missions from (main character Franklin's best friend) Lamar, that would offer a good chance to blitz through them and get involved in some multiplayer, gang war hijinks if players haven't done so already.

No doubt, many players will use this as an opportunity to stockpile as much cash as possible ahead of future updates to the multiplier game mode. Recent additions to GTA Online, including the Super Yacht and the ability to hire (and pay) other players as bodyguards in the Executives and Other Criminals update, along with those aforementioned lowriders (cars cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to get lowrider-ready) will certainly have drained players' in-game bank accounts.

While plenty of players welcome all of this new content, buying it all may feel like a grind. Plus, with GTA Online proving to be so popular (it recently had its best week ever, according to Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two), it's likely that more of these updates are set to come and this double GTA$ and RP cushion should help that new content feel less like a grind to get and more like an affordable luxury.

Other players, however, will consider events like Friends In High Places as a way of distracting Rockstar from creating Grand Theft Auto 5 story DLC. Recent hints from Franklin's voice actor seem to suggest that some story DLC is on the way, but with a lack of information, some fans have begun to fear that GTA Online events are delaying the release of that narrative content.
