Grand Theft Auto 5 has had incredible longevity since it was released in 2013. Whether it’s the narrative or the open world of Los Santos, players keep coming back to the game with every new re-release of the title, making Grand Theft Auto 5 top sales charts every year. One section of the player base that has thrived through the game’s lifespan is the PC audience, who use mods to enhance and expand their experience.

Modding has always been a key perk of gaming on PC, being able to alter the tiniest details of a game or create entirely new assets that can change how the gameplay works. In Grand Theft Auto 5, modding has become commonplace for the game’s experience on PC, with some mods in GTA Online becoming staples for those who want to experience the game in new and creative ways.

Some mods, however, go the extra mile, to the point where it almost feels like an entirely different game. A mod by user JulioNIB creates an entirely new game script for Grand Theft Auto 5 that turns the player character into Batman.

In a showcase of the mod, the user displays the great lengths they and their collaborators went to create an authentic experience playing as Batman in Grand Theft Auto 5, from the creation of new melee combat reminiscent of Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham series to new gadgets like Batarangs and a grappling hook to defeat enemies with. The mod also allows players to summon different versions of Batman as companions and even different iterations of the Batmobile to drive around Los Santos in.

The mod is able to accurately recreate aspects of past Batman games in a completely different game. This isn’t the first time someone has attempted to bring a superhero to life in a GTA game, as a GTA Online player recreated Spider-Man characters not long ago.

While there are aspects of the mod that look unpolished, the user has still declared this mod a work in progress, with more fine-tuning said to be done in the future. With Grand Theft Auto 6 finally announced, it will be interesting to see mods like these make the jump to Rockstar’s next installment in the franchise.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions launch on March 18.
