Rockstar Games has yet to confirm the existence of Grand Theft Auto 6, but the unannounced title is trending once again due to a recent Grand Theft Auto Online DLC announcement. Fans have taken to the internet to voice their displeasure about more GTA Online content rather than a true sequel to GTA 5.

Rockstar Games recently showed off a new Grand Theft Auto Online story known as "The Contract," which is releasing on December 15. Although fans are anticipating the additional content for the massively popular GTA Online, others have been critical of Rockstar Games' decision to continue focusing on the online experience rather than working on GTA 5's successor. As a result of the back-and-forth between GTA Online fans and enthusiasts of the classic Grand Theft Auto experiences, GTA 6 has trended once again online.

Grand Theft Auto 5's Franklin Clinton plays an important role in The Contract according to Rockstar Games' reveal trailer, with many GTA Online fans anticipating the return of one of three of the main game's protagonists. Franklin will be joining the story with his friend Lamar Davis, with Franklin acting as Manager of F. Clinton & Partners, a music production company in GTA Online. Franklin teases a desire to get his hands dirty again during The Contract trailer, suggesting that he will delve back into the life of crime despite his success since the conclusion of GTA 5.

While Dr. Dre is no stranger to the GTA franchise, The Contract heavily revolves around the rap icon. The announcement trailer teases his involvement in making music through Franklin's record label as he sings alongside a fellow rapper before Lamar introduces himself to the NWA member. Because The Contract will include new music for GTA Online, fans of Dr. Dre may hear some recognizable beats produced by the popular rapper in Grand Theft Auto Online in the near future.

Several gamers voiced their displeasure of an expansion coming to GTA Online, with many asking for anything from Rockstar Games but additional online content. Although announcements like The Contract trailer are typically met with fanfare, the lack of Grand Theft Auto 6 info led many to demand news on the sequel, which caused it to trend on social media. Long-time GTA fans who are familiar with expansions for previous titles simply lament the fact that The Contract is locked to GTA Online and can't be played in single-player.

Some Grand Theft Auto 5 fans were quick to point out that Rockstar Games once claimed that GTA Online takes place long before the events of GTA 5, causing some congruency issues with Franklin being so much older in The Contract. Some GTA fans are speculating that GTA 6 won't be shown off until more gamers have their hands on a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, but Rockstar Games has yet to announce the sequel. Rockstar Games recently released Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: The Definitive Edition, which joins The Contract as some buffer GTA content before the release of the already trending Grand Theft Auto 6.

Grand Theft Auto Online is available right now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
