Frequent Grand Theft Auto 5 modder JulioNIB releases a new mod for the game that makes it play and resemble Ubisoft's open world hacking title Watch Dogs.
Once upon a time, Watch Dogs was one of the most anticipated games in the industry, winning a number of Best of E3 awards following its surprise reveal. The hype behind Watch Dogs inspired talented modder JulioNIB to create a Watch Dogs mod for Grand Theft Auto 4, and now JulioNIB has given the same treatment to the GTA4 followup, Grand Theft Auto 5.
The recently released Watch Dogs mod for Grand Theft Auto 5 is already rather impressive, and may be upgraded in the future to include slow motion and crimes for players to solve. Right now, a number of the most popular features from Watch Dogs are already available in GTA 5 thanks to the mod, such as the ability to manipulate traffic lights, explode ATMs, and more, all using the in-game cellphone.
The mod also transforms the characters of Grand Theft Auto 5 so that they resemble the primary protagonist of Watch Dogs, hacker Aiden Pearce. The general aesthetic of Los Santos is also tweaked with the mod to more accurately replicate the feel of playing Watch Dogs.

As can be seen in the video, adding the hacking features from Watch Dogs into Grand Theft Auto 5 results in utter chaos, and looks to be a blast. The potential for creative and entertaining mods like this one is one of the main reasons why gamers demanded a PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 from Rockstar Games for so long, but it looks like the wait was worth it.
The Grand Theft Auto 5 community has released a number of high quality mods so far, with the creator of this Watch Dogs mod, JulioNIB, being especially productive. Besides this Watch Dogs mod, JulioNIB has also made available to PC GTA 5 gamers an Incredible Hulk mod, an Iron Man mod, and others. That being said, this Watch Dogs mod seems to be his most ambitious GTA 5 modding project yet, so it will be interesting to see where he goes from here.
In the meantime, it would be nice if console players also had the opportunity to enjoy some of the many exciting mods available for the PC version of GTA 5. The possibility is certainly there, thanks to Fallout 4 opening the door for PC mods to come to consoles, but even if GTA 5 PC mods eventually follow suit, it's doubtful that the Watch Dogs mod would be made available for download. In fact, many of JulioNIB's mods probably wouldn't make the cut, as his most famous work tends to be based on IP owned by other companies.
In the meantime, PC gamers can continue enjoying JulioNIB's creations for the time being, as well as the many other great GTA 5 mods that have been produced by the community so far. Expect the modding community to continue to produce high quality mods for GTA 5 in the future as well, thanks to the game's persisting popularity.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The Watch Dogs mod for the game is only available for the PC version at this point.
