Mad Max: Fury Road has been in theaters for nearly a full month now and the long-awaited return to the desert wasteland is still pulling in millions of dollars each week thanks to rave reviews and a powerful word of mouth campaign

The film will likely end up being the most well-received action movie of summer 2015 and many corners of the internet, including gamers, have embraced the high-octane thrill ride as an instant classic. Even the Grand Theft Auto 5 community has the Mad Max bug.

In the weeks since the theatrical release of Fury Road, a series of impressive and weird tributes to the adventures of Max and Furiosa have popped up online. One of our favorite mash-ups combined the world of Max with Mario Kart (in a way that made way more sense than it should have). The latest Max video to go viral comes from the Grand Theft Auto 5 community, who recreated an action set piece in-game.

YouTuber La chaine de Toto posted the video as a tribute to the Mad Max series (which will be receiving its own game later this year). Unlike some of the other Mad Max mash-ups we've seen lately, this one seems to borrow inspiration from scenes throughout all four Max movies, rather than just Fury Road. Although it could use a little more high speed first-person POV shoots and a sidekick, the video does a great job of recreating some of the franchise's most iconic set pieces.

The protagonist could use a bit more facial hair, but the video's opening definitely captures the look and feel of the first scene in Fury Road. The video uses tons of in-game props and a lot of great editing to make the rest of the video feel like a Mad Max car chase that would fit right into the post-apocalyptic setting. From painted white War Boys to snipers racing over the dunes, the tribute really does have almost everything.

Unfortunately, this video doesn't have time to bring Furiosa's war rig into the action. The rig drives much of the action in Fury Road, but all things considered, the video's creator packed a lot of references (spanning all four films) into the four minutes of action.

As gamers get a chance to see Mad Max style action in a game as well-crafted as GTA5, it's hard not to speculate about whether or not the upcoming Mad Max game can live up to the hype. A lot of the footage we've seen so far takes place outside of cars and concentrates on the Batman Arkham style combat system. At the end of the day, the Max series is all about high-speed car combat, so fans of the series are hoping that the final product can deliver chase sequences like the ones that are possible in Grand Theft Auto.

What do you think of the Grand Theft Auto 5 Mad Max tribute? Do you think the upcoming Mad Max game will live up to this level of action? Let us know in the comments.
