Gran Turismo 6 PS4 Port Gran Turismo 7

Although gamers have yet to experience Gran Turismo 6, Polyphony Digital's latest vehicular opus, the developer is already teasing a potential Gran Turismo 7. However, this proposed Gran Turismo 7 might not be the sequel that fans expect.

According to Polyphony CEO Kazunori Yamauchi, the developer has some ideas in mind for a PS4 port of Gran Turismo 6, but by the time they are done implementing those ideas and porting the game to Sony's next-gen platform the game might take on a new identity. In essence, Polyphony's PS4 port of Gran Turismo 6 might be so different from the Ps3 version that it becomes Gran Turismo 7.

As expected, Yamauchi says that it will take some time for the PS4 port of Gran Turismo to arrive; so racing fans shouldn't hold their breath for a next-gen version anytime soon. Moreover, the developer only just announced a release date for Gran Turismo 6 - December 6th - so talking about a Gran Turismo 7 is getting way ahead of ourselves.

As a matter of fact, the Gran Turismo 6 reveals are still coming, even though it feels like gamers have seen all there is to see, promotion-wise, from the racing title. At Gamescom 2013, for example, Polyphony revealed that Gran Turismo 6 will feature never before seen concept cars from Aston Martin, BMW, and Nisaan.

Nevertheless, Polyphony isn't shying away from mentioning a PS4 port of Gran Turismo 6, even though Sony has yet to confirm such a possibility. They obviously have a lot invested in this PS3 version, which has been in development for about 3 years now, and don't want to take any attention away from it.

As well, Sony has a new racing brand in DriveClub, which many thought to be the successor to Gran Turismo on the PS4. Not that Gran Turismo is going anywhere, but DriveClub will presumably be the franchise that doesn't leave huge gaps between releases. In all fairness to Gran Turismo, though, that development time is what makes the games so good. Hopefully, if they build off GT6, then this PS4 port won't take nearly as long.

Will you hold out for Gran Turismo 7 on the PS4? Do you think Polyphony should start from scratch on GT 7 or use GT 6 as a base?

Gran Turismo 6 releases December 6, 2013 for the PS3.
