As the release date for Gran Turismo 7 gets closer, the team at Sony and Polyphony Digital is beginning to show off more gameplay footage. The newest look at Gran Turismo 7 shows off some GT-Class cars turning laps at the iconic Daytona International Speedway.
A new video shared on the PlayStation YouTube channel showed off a variety of new looks at Gran Turismo 7 gameplay on the Daytona International Speedway. The video showed off the racing and environment of the venue's infield road course, a mixture of parts of the oval track most known to host NASCAR events, and the infield circuit where the Rolex 24-Hour Endurance event is held. The gameplay footage captured on the PS5 is 2 laps around the track, but technically the same lap, but from different angles.
The first lap is purely in-car gameplay. Fans are treated to the sights and sounds of what it'll be like around the track during the twilight hours. The in-car footage features impressive visuals and details of the inside of the car. The rearview camera and steering wheel telemetry sticks out the most as the modifications for these high-quality sports cars pale in comparison to what fans know whether they follow the real-life racing games, or not. The most notable things from the first lap in-car are the sounds of the car going through the gears, the shaking and rumbles from hitting the curbs in some corners, and the sound of the tires screeching as they hit the very limit through the backstretch chicane.
The second lap is a replay of the first, showing off the variety of camera angles around the track. Here the use of the late afternoon setting is on full display as the shadow effects from the focus car and the entire field are thrown onto nearby barriers. The glare of the sun reflecting off the cars in some corners feel akin to what a viewer would see when watching a race at this time in real life. A healthy number of camera shots give us a look at the focus car, a Porsche 911 RSR, and the other GTLM-class cars it passes throughout the lap.
The choice of using gameplay footage of the Daytona Road Course is likely to be a purposeful one. The track returns after a suspicious absence from GT Sport and keeps the promise to host a mixture of real and fictional Gran Turismo tracks. The Rolex 24-Hour Endurance race will also be held at the end of January and the cars shown off in the video would make up a sizable portion of the cars competing in one of the Endurance Racing world's "Crown Jewel" events. It wouldn't be surprising if some sort of promotion of Gran Turismo 7 shows up in the weeks leading up to the event.
Gran Turismo 7 releases on March 4th on the PS4 and PS5.
