Gotham City Impostors Promo Art

After the announcement of Warner Bros' first person shooter Gotham City Impostors many gamers had a hard time wrapping their head around the concept. Set within the DC Comics universe, the downloadable title promised gamers the chance to create their own ‘impostor’ that would be inspired by either Batman or the Joker.

Aside from the brief game outline, and a list of some of the available weapons in the game, not much was revealed about Gotham City Impostors, leaving many gamers wary at the prospect.

Luckily the folks over at Games Radar had a piece of art for the game sent over that gives just the briefest of hints as to what type of title Gotham City Impostors might be. If the rendering is any indication, Impostors looks like an amalgamation of Team Fortress 2 and Brink — with characters fulfilling specific roles on two opposing teams.

Of course this frame doesn’t do much to show how combat will work in Gotham City Impostors, but it does a much better job of summing up the project than Warner's original press release.

Now gamers who balked at the idea of the Batman wielding a gun will understand that these ‘impostors’ are not sidekicks to the Dark Knight, but merely idolizing caricatures that are battling their Joker-ized enemies. From the look at the art there also appears to be an equal blend of melee and range combat options, which suggests that combat might not just be relegated to the first person shooter genre.

Like the battle between Joker and Batman in Arkham Asylum, it’s the caped crusader’s signature abilities that help give him a signature advantage rather than simply his fists. What, if any, those abilities will be we cannot say, but we hope that the experience of Gotham City Impostors is just as rich as it’s retail counterpart.

What do you think of the art style of Gotham City Impostors? How does this reveal stack up to your vision of the game?
