One game franchise that several of the Game Rant staff used to play religiously is Ubisoft's Ghost Recon. On the first Xbox, Ghost Recon 2 and Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike both featured full four-player splitscreen coop which is one of the best experiences on that system you could have with your buddies over.

Come the Xbox 360 and the new Advanced Warfighter series and the first installment didn't include that awesome feature. Disappointment was just one of the things we felt. The sequel fixed that luckily but that was choppy and sometimes unplayable. That didn't take away from the pretty good single player and 2-player co-op experiences though and we've been waiting for the next game for a while now with the last title coming out in 2007.

Earlier in the year, it was revealed that Ubisoft's Ghost Recon 4 (codenamed "Predator") was on the way and it's been silence ever since. That is, until now, where Ubisoft has filed to trademark "Ghost Recon: Future Soldier."

The last few games all took place a few years in the future, but if the title can be taken at face value, we may be seeing a real jump ahead in time and some cool new weapons and gadgets. Is this the Ghost Recon 4 we've been waiting for, previously known as Predator?

I'm game for a realistic take on future combat as we've done the present with a pile of games and I sure as heck don't want to go back and do one of the major wars of the past. We saw the Battlefield series take a leap ahead in Battlefield 2142 which I logged in a pile of hours playing, and I have a feeling that Call of Duty will be pushing into the future pretty soon with Activision's acquisition of a third developer to work on the Call of Duty franchise.

Are you excited about a future-based Ghost Recon?
