Genshin Impact will be getting its 2.1 update soon and there's plenty of new content for fans to explore. Alongside the arrival of two new character banners, there will be new events, quests, areas, weapons, and even new mechanics like fishing. While the update won't be as big as the initial 2.0 update with Inazuma, Genshin Impact's 2.1 trailer showcased some interesting things.

While much of the information regarding Genshin Impact's 2.1 update was already discovered through beta testing and datamining, there are also a few new additions. Maintenance for the update is set to start on September 1 in its home timezone, or August 31 at 3:00 p.m. PST. The first Genshin Impact anniversary will also occur during the 2.1 update, so there will be plenty to look forward to.

New Characters, Weapons, and Bosses in Genshin Impact's 2.1 Update

As expected from a new Genshin Impact update, the 2.1 version will be bringing two new character banners to the game. The first banner will feature Baal, the Electro Archon of Inazuma together with her aide, Kujou Sara, and this banner will run during the first half of the 2.1 update. The second banner will feature Kokomi, the leader of the Sangonomiya Resistance and this will run through the second half of the 2.1 update. The Horizon Zero Dawn crossover will also happen during the 2.1 update as all PlayStation players will be able to obtain Aloy. However, PC and mobile players will need to wait until the 2.2 update to snag Aloy.

New characters also mean new weapons and it seems that Baal's banner will feature the 5-star polearm, Engulfing Lightning while Kokomi's banner will feature the 5-star catalyst, Everlasting Moonglow. Two new 4-star weapons will also be added in the Genshin Impact 2.1 update: a polearm called The Catch and a claymore called The Luxurious Sea-Lord.

The Inazuma Archon Quest will also continue in the 2.1 update which should give more backstory to Baal, Kujou Sara, and Kokomi. There have also been hints that the Fatui will return with Scaramouche and La Signora as the newest weekly boss of Inazuma. The Hydro Hypostasis and Electro Oceanid will also be introduced as unique elemental spins on the current bosses Genshin Impact players are familiar with.

New Areas, Events, and Fishing in Genshin Impact's 2.1 Update

The 2.1 update for Genshin Impact will also bring two new islands to explore in Inazuma. Watatsumi is a colorful forest that's home to Kokomi and the Sangonomiya resistance while Seirai is an island that's consumed by an eternal storm. With the addition of these new areas, there's only one location yet to be released in Inazuma, Tsurumi Island.

As expected from a new Genshin Impact update, there will also be plenty of events running through the duration of the 2.1 version. The first is called Moonlight Merriment where players will search for charms and chests for rewards while another part will have them cook dishes for buffs to clear out monster camps. The second event is called Hyakunin Ikki and it's a free-for-all fighting tournament where players create six teams of two Genshin Impact characters to defeat enemies on a timer.

The final event is called Lunar Realm and it focuses on the new fishing mechanic introduced in Genshin Impact's 2.1 update. As part of the event, players will receive a fishing rod and they must catch the Lunar Leviathan. The fish caught by players can be exchanged for rewards at the Fishing Association or used in cooking. Ornamental fish can be caught and placed in the Pool of Sapphire Grace, a new item in the Serenitea Pot. There will also be specialized fishing rods for each region and craftable bait which implies fishing will stay as a permanent mechanic even after the event ends.

Genshin Impact is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5.
