There are few multiplayer games on the Xbox 360 that can hold a candle to the Gears of War franchise. With every new installment, the series' online components continuously get better, and that's a trend that Epic Games hopes will stick when they release Gears of War: Judgment in early 2013. Plenty of new content is planned for the much anticipated Gears of War prequel, and fans who've been hoping for more will get just that.

OverRun is one of the biggest new modes coming to Gears of War: Judgment, and news has just broken today that it won't be the sole addition. Finally, gamers will be able to test their skills in an individually focused environment that tailors to lone wolves. Appropriately titled 'Free-For-All' mode, gamers will throw teamwork out the window and see how well they hold up against other rogue players.

To accompany the big announcement, Microsoft and Epic Games revealed two new multiplayer maps that'll host the 'Free-For-All' game mode. Both 'Gondola' and 'Library' will join the likes of previously unveiled areas such as 'Island', and offer a nice change of scenery from previously announced maps. 'Gondola' takes place in a ritzy apartment complex, while 'Library' takes place in Alexiy Desipich Memorial Library.

In order to show off Free-For-All in action, Microsoft and Epic Games will have the new mode and maps playable on the show floor of PAX Prime later this week. Anyone attending the event can head on over to Booth #412 to give Gears of War: Judgment, and its newly revealed multiplayer mode, a spin.

A free-for-all game mode has been heavily requested by fans since the original Gears of War released, and it's just a no-brainer multiplayer addition. Still, it's surprising that we're only just getting it now when it's something that should have been part of every iterations of the series. Regardless, one more gameplay option is far from a bad thing, and we doubt fans will be disappointed by something that will end up being so perfectly chaotic.

Now, what'll be the most interesting thing to see is how well the devs at People Can Fly handle spawn camping, especially when there are enemy COGs lurking in almost every corner.

Gears of War: Judgment will invade store shelves March 19th, exclusively on Xbox 360.
