The newest trailer for Microsoft's upcoming blockbuster, Gears of War 4, has set a new record on Microsoft's YouTube channel, becoming the most viewed video on its channel.

It's no secret that Gears of War 4 is Microsoft's biggest release for its Xbox One console in 2016. The game is set to be a return to form of sorts for the series following its critically panned installment Gears of War: Judgment, and it marks the first entry created at the brand new development studio The Coalition. Indeed, there's quite a bit of change in the wind for the historically Xbox-centric franchise, and consumers seem to be taking notice.

As it turns out, the latest trailer for Gears of War 4 has been doing incredibly well for Microsoft. While that's to be expected from a trademark IP, the cinematic in question has actually become the most-viewed video on the publisher's official Xbox YouTube channel. As of this writing, the Gears of War 4 trailer, titled Tomorrow, is sitting at just over 8.5 million views, which is a rather impressive feat. In fact, it has now officially eclipsed the former frontrunner which was a video that unveiled the Xbox One – something that even Microsoft probably thought wouldn't happen.

Considering that the Gears 4 beta is still ongoing, there's likely quite a few gamers that were intrigued by the multiplayer trial and decided to see how the story would play into the final product. Of course, setting aside the praise given to the cinematic trailer, it's surprising to see it surpass the likes of Halo 5: Guardians in views given that the franchise is often heralded as Microsoft's bread and butter shooter. Whether or not these views translate into sales, however, remains to be seen, but there's no denying the excitement dedicated Gearsheads have for the fourth numbered installment of the series.

Our hands-on time with the Gears 4 beta made us feel reassured that the property was in good hands at The Coalition, but there is still quite a bit of time to go before the final title's arrival later this October. Furthermore, it's still unknown if Microsoft plans on releasing the game across both Xbox One and PC, despite a refusal from The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson that to confirm one way or another.
