After revealing the Gears of War 4 Ultimate Edition, Microsoft reveals what sort of content awaits players inside of the season pass and how much money it is going to cost.

With a multiplayer beta currently raging on the Xbox One and a big showing at PAX East 2016, fans have been getting a lot of information regarding Gears of War 4 lately. Like most high profile games these days, Gears of War 4 offers fans multiple editions to purchase, including a season pass for those who want to save a little money in the process. With the news that preorders for the gory third person shooter have finally opened, Microsoft and The Coalition also revealed the season pass price and what fans can expect inside the package.

As expected, the Gears of War 4 season pass features an assortment of digital content and maps. Season pass owners gain access to the following perks and content:

  • VIP Vintage Pack - Unlocks the vintage JD Fenix skin, vintage Gnasher shotgun and dropshot weapon skins, along with a vintage JD emblem and vintage JD bounty that grants additional XP.
  • Permanent DLC Map Pack Ownership - Grants players at least two post-launch maps for 12 months which are available to play anytime in private matches on dedicated servers.
  • Developer Playlist - Almost like a beta playlist, players will be able to partake in upcoming modes, maps, and variants before the general public gets thier hands on them.
  • Six Gear Packs - Gear packs are essentially unlocks that a player receives for doing well, finishing challenges, and more. Potential rewards including character and weapon skins, additional bounties, and new equipment and abilities. It's worth noting that these will also be available for purchase as microtransactions.

Microsoft also revealed that the season pass will retail for $50, a price that is certainly on the higher end when compared to other major releases such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Fallout 4, even though the later increased the price last month.

Yesterday, Microsoft announced Gears of War 4 Ultimate Edition, which not only nets fans both the game and the season pass, but exclusive access to the game 4 day earlier on October 7. Like season pass owners, this edition also comes with the VIP Vintage pack, six additional Gear Packs, access to the developer playlist, and the massive amount of post-launch maps to be added. Considering that the DLC maps are set to rotate on a regular basis, only season pass or Ultimate Edition owners will gain access to each and everyone whenever they want. Interestingly enough, fans who opt for this edition will save 10 bucks in the process as the Ultimate Edition clocks in at $100.

Do you feel the content in the season pass justifies the high price or are you a little underwhelmed? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Gears of War 4 is set to launch exclusively for the Xbox One on October 11, 2016.
