It's finally happened — Gears of War 3 has officially gone gold. This means that the game's development has officially come to a close, and Epic Games will send off their final version of the game to be put into mass production. Fans have been waiting on this news since Gears 3 was first announced, and it's nice to finally get the official confirmation that the game has been completed - Especially after seeing the game delayed from its original April release date.

Not to be content with simply completing the game, however, Epic felt that they needed to attempt quenching the insatiable thirst of its followers by releasing the opening cinematic for Gears of War 3 to go along with the Act 1 gameplay footage released earlier this week.

The trailer is a brief two and a half minute affair, and it fills gamers in on what has happened to Marcus and the other members of Delta Squad since the end of Gears of War 2. Those who've read the books already know that the Coalition of Ordered Governments (a.k.a. The C.O.G.) have been disbanded, and the groups of humans have split up in an attempt to find refuge from the Lambent and remaining Locust forces.

The opening cinematic for Gears of War 3 has been given the title 'We're All Stranded Now' and is narrated by Anya Stroud. Warning: This video shouldn't be watched by anyone under the age of 18:

The humans' entire civilization has fallen apart after losing Jacinto, and it'll be interesting to see how the group of ex-militants are coping after the disbanding of their government. Of course, there are some people who already know what happens during the game's campaign because they pirated it, but those who spilled the Gears of War 3's story all over YouTube will be hunted down and punished for their crimes by Epic Games.

Regardless, the opening cinematic is very well done, and accomplishes its task of informing and preparing players for Gears of War 3's pending plot line — while simultaneously getting fans everywhere foaming from the mouth in anticipation. The wait isn't that much longer though, so hopefully there aren't too many anxiety-related deaths tied to the wait for the game's release.

While Gears of War 3 will definitely conclude the current trilogy, as Cliffy B confirmed, Epic Games is not done with the Gears franchise.

Gears of War 3 will launch on September 22nd exclusively on the Xbox 360.
