One of the hottest topics in the gaming hemisphere right now is Gears of War 3. The finally installment in the Gears of War trilogy only just released yesterday, and it has easily moved to the forefront of every Xbox gamer's mind. Gears of War 3 has certainly set new precedents in the gaming industry as the most pre-ordered Xbox-exclusive of all time, but it would appear that it doesn't plan on stopping there. Microsoft has announced plans to air live commercials in the United Kingdom for the new title.

Needless to say, Microsoft is really confident about Gears 3's initial sales numbers, because the live aspects of the ads will feature a current player count of everyone playing Gears of War 3 online at that point in time — think of it as 'Live from Xbox Live'.

There will be six separate commercials that are scheduled to make their rounds on UK television, and each will each run the standard 30 seconds. Microsoft will officially kickoff their new ad campaign on September 23rd, and the commercials will run until October 3rd.

Microsoft's UK Xbox marketing director Stephen McGill is understandably excited by the live advertising segments for Gears of War 3, and he had some kind words pertaining to the new game.

"This is going to be our biggest controller-based game campaign."

"It is on the scale of what we did for 'Halo Reach' and 'Halo 3' — television is the main centrepiece of the campaign."

This is somewhat of a revolutionary step for the gaming medium. Live television spots have never been attempted for a video game before, so it'll be interesting to see if potential consumers buy into the 'everyone else is doing it' appeal of the commercials. There should also be a significant amount of gamers partaking in Gears of War 3's online multiplayer, and unlocking the elusive golden Lancer and Hammerburst weapons, so the ads should meet their designed affect.

There's no word on whether or not these advertisements will make their way over to North America, but odds are if you're reading this then you already have the game — in which case, these ads don't concern you. Read our Gears of War 3 review to see why you should be interested in this game.
