If I told you that playing Pokemon for 72 hours straight could help out a charity, would you do it? This past weekend, The Speed Gamers held a charity event on their website where they played through 8 of the Pokemon games (Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Diamond, Pearl, Heart Gold, and Soul Silver) in 72 hours.
On top of completing the games, there was also one other task: catch all 493 Pokemon by the end of the 72nd hour. Some Pokemon were only obtainable through Nintendo events that have already passed, so they were preloaded onto one of the cartridges to help make this goal possible. The event was broadcast via a live feed with members of the crew taking turns commentating the event.
The event raised a amazing total of $18,152.90 for Ally’s House, which is an Oklahoma based charity that helps local children with cancer and their families. It provides the families with support for medical expenses, short term housing, and other similar needs. Donations can still be made until the 24th so if you’re interested in donating go to the website and click on the ChipIn! link. The Speed Gamers have raised almost $125,000 for various causes, with this being their most recent event.
Game Rant is a fan of The Speed Gamers and their efforts. If you have some spare dollars, donate to support their cause during this holiday season.

Truly, I miss the days of 151 pokemon… but then who would donate to charity to see someone beat only two versions of pokemon?
Good to see video games doing some good in the world.
That a lot of money, that's good for the charities. Who would you donate that?
