Black Prophecy Trailer is in Space!

Something about the space MMO Black Prophecy gets me excited in ways that other space combat games have never done. It’s not that I don’t like space, I love space, but it’s just so intimidating. Aliens and asteroids and all that empty, well, space. Black Prophecy just looks spectacular though, so even if I’m still intimidated I might find tranquility just checking out the view.

Alpha Protocol Gameplay Preview Trailer

Alpha Protocol Gameplay Preview Trailer

As you’ve probably already heard, the release of Obsidian Entertainment’s spy RPG, Alpha Protocol, has been pushed back to June 1, 2010.  To satiate those gamers who were interested in the title, Obsidian has released a series of Developer Diary videos related to the story of the game. The short of it is Alpha Protocol aims to put players in the shoes of super-spy, Michael Thornton, who must assassinate a high-level terrorist in the Middle East in order to prevent World War III from breaking out. While on his mission, he is cut off from his chain of command and must follow the “Alpha Protocol” in order to survive. Throughout, gamers will have to make judgment calls as to who can be trusted, so that Thornton can complete his mission.

Apparently building on the experience from its developing stint on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Obsidian appears to be mixing Bioware-like drama with the ally system from Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. Rather than sticking with the ”good vs. evil” paradigm from KOTOR II, however, Obsidian is pushing a “shades of gray” choice tree. To see the gameplay in action, check out the preview video below:

EA Sports MMA New Trailer Released

EA Sports initial entry into the world of MMA video games, the creatively-titled EA Sports MMA, is due to release during the second half of this year. In order to get the hype train going, and to possibly convince gamers to hold off from picking up THQ’s UFC: Undisputed 2010 earlier this year, EA has released a new trailer showing what to expect from its version of the octagon (and optional four-corner ring). From the footage shown, EA looks to be attempting to offer a more visceral and action-packed version of MMA. Whether it will be more accessible to casual fans of MMA than THQ’s offering is still yet to be determined.

Metro 2033 Launch Trailer

Metro 2033 releases today, and we have the new launch trailer.  THQ’s latest first person shooter is a dark game with monsters around every corner. The game takes place in the year 2013 in a Ukrainian subway station  and is based off of a novel from author Dmitry Glukhovsky.

CVG sat down with the head of global communications Huw Benyon to hear straight from the source what the game has to offer. Benyon states that you can customize this game to your liking all the way down to the firing sensitivity for the controls. It also appears that the game will have a very mature style of story telling similar to that of Heavy Rain.

Metro 2033 also boasts that it is the first major title to be in 3D. Benyon also comments on this:

Medal of Honor Trailer

Fans of visceral, modern warfare (hmm..) taking place in the middle East will not be disappointed with this new trailer for the revival of the Medal of Honor franchise. I have only really ever played the original MoH game back on the PS1, but it was fun and definitely something that started that whole WW2 trend in videogames that’s still going on. Judging from the trailer, you can expect to see door breaching, vehicular combat, firefights on mountains, and real gameplay. Not to mention a whole lot of panicked soldiers.

The character’s name is Hakan; he’s a Turkish wrestler who likes to slather himself in oil and then grapple his opponents. His moves do damage by sliding across the screen and slamming his opponents into either side. He can also squeeze his opponent until they shoot out and slam into something.

Mass Effect 2: Hammerhead Gameplay/New Weapon DLC

Via Gametrailers, Bioware has released new footage of the anticipated vehicle missions for Mass Effect 2. Scheduled tentatively for late March, the trailer shows the Hammerhead hovercraft in action. Now gamers will be able to strafe their enemies rather than constantly circling them. The combat also appears to be much more fluid than when gamers were forced to use the Mako, a heavily-armored, but awkward, moon buggy. Reportedly, there will be five new missions involving the Hammerhead.

I was never too crazy about the vehicle missions in the original Mass Effect, but you can’t complain about free DLC.

Gran Turismo 5 ‘Nights’ Trailer

Coupled with God of War 3 is a new trailer for Gran Turismo 5. The trailer is filled with gorgeous cars that I wouldn’t be able to name for you, and also sneakily shows some of the new drifting and car damage mechanics. A release date is still blatantly absent, but hopefully this trailer can appease everyone until we can find some more concrete information on GT5: The Real Driving Simulator.

Beyond the obvious fact that Gran Turismo still looks absolutely stunning I can’t add much to the discussion. I’ve never been particularly adept at racing games, but I’d still hope every gamer has the opportunity to try a new Gran Turismo game. They always seem to push the boundaries on graphics and driving realism. Sit back and enjoy, everyone!

New Modnation Racers ‘Build It’ Trailer

A new trailer for Sony and United Front Games’ Modnation Racers has just surfaced.  Titled ‘Build It,’ the video shows various obstacles that can be placed on tracks you build in the game.

Check out the trailer below

The more of this game I see, the more I’m impressed.  It really does look like the LittleBigPlanet of racing games, but in this case I think I’ll actually build some levels.  I always wanted to in LBP, but it simply took too long to make a quality level.  The track editor in this game looks fantastic, and makes building exactly what you want look astonishingly easy.  If you want to see what I mean, check out this video from the guys at Giant Bomb.

Are You Ready For Some Pure Football?

This May, Ubisoft is coming out kicking with its new soccer game, Pure Football. Rather than limiting you country destroying options to weaponry in the Tom Clancy franchises, now Ubisoft will let you destroy countries… with your feet.

Unlike traditional soccer games that provide an aerial view of the field, Pure Football will give you a 3rd person over the shoulder view of the pitch.

Pure Football is a 5 on 5 football game that will focus on putting you in the middle of the action with no referees and “no rules” game play.
