Nintendo has always been known to create unique gaming experiences for people of all ages. The company not only puts out traditional platformers like Mario and Donkey Kong, but it also occasionally dabbles in more creativity-inclined games, such as Super Mario Maker or WarioWare D.I.Y.

Today, Nintendo unexpectedly announced a brand-new game that is coming to the Nintendo Switch this summer, and it allows players to program and create their own video games. The title is called Game Builder Garage.

It doesn't seem to matter how old a player is, as Game Builder Garage is meant to help make it easy for players to create fun and exciting games with the help of Nintendo's interactive lessons that will take players step by step through the game-making process.

There will be 7 different guided lessons for players to make their way through that will end up with them making 7 different games, which range from a kart racer mini-game to a puzzle game where players have to roll a ball through a maze by using motion controls.

Once players complete the lessons and begin to have their head wrapped around the programming process, they can show off their skills and check out the game's Free Programming mode. Here, players can freely create any type of game that Game Builder Garage has to offer. Players will even be able to exchange codes to share their creations with friends and vice versa.

Game Garage Builder has a suggested retail price of $29.99 and will be sold via the Switch eShop as well as the Nintendo.com store. The game will allow players to build games of their own using a compatible USB mouse, which can make things a little bit easier for those who are more PC-inclined. Of course, the game can still be played normally with the Switch in portable/docked mode, as well as with a Pro Controller.

Having a low-cost game creation tool like this on the Nintendo Switch will surely find an audience. Games like Dreams have found a dedicated group of followers that have been creating the most incredible games on the platform. It'll be interesting to see what kind of games players will create with Game Builder Garage, and how far people can push the Switch software. Considering this is a Nintendo exclusive title, there are bound to be many game creations inspired by iconic series like Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda.

Game Builder Garage will launch as a Nintendo Switch exclusive on June 11, 2021.
