In a recent interview, Sony rep John Hight discussed the future of the God of War franchise, stating that the series will not be ending with the release of God of War III.
Although Sony’s current focus is the upcoming release of the long awaited return of Kratos, Hight points out that the game engine is constantly evolving. He continues to note that “we’re going to be really careful about what we do next”.
The second game was a nice evolution from the first graphically, and players can expect more advancement from the upcoming God of War III. Hight points out that the newest entry will employ dynamic environments where “Kratos can now navigate, battle on, engage other creatures on, find treasures, you name it.” This is being done through what Hight states is “soft body collision” – a process two years in the making.

God of War III caps off the story of Kratos, but does not end the franchise
It’s apparent from the quality of the first two games that Santa Monica Studio takes their development process seriously. It’s even more satisfying that they haven’t applied the God of War title to a new game every quarter. I could see the God of War series turning into more of an anthology after Kratos’ story wraps up in upcoming third game. They hint to as much during some of the cut scenes in the first game, indicating that the God of War has been present in every conflict throughout history.
Of course, much of the appeal of the game’s story for me has been the Greek lore and environments present throughout the series. But, who’s to say that God of War couldn’t translate across era’s the way the folks at Ubisoft have wound Assassin’s Creed?
Be sure to check out our exclusive interview with Kratos himself, actor Joseph Gatt, who has a big villainous role in the upcoming Thor feature film for Marvel Studios.

Must…get…God of War…collection…before…GoW3.
God of War III looks great and I can understand why they wouldn't just drop the franchise… but a spin-off, etc sounds like a terrible idea. There are enough God of War clones out there already or en route (I'm looking at you Dante) without Sony doing it too. I just can't imagine how this will actually play out…
why end in 3
just make gow iv next
no rocket science
