At long last, Fortnite is rolling out its content for Fortnitemares 2022. The highly anticipated seasonal event - part of Fortnite's v22.20 update - introduces a fresh slate of Halloween-themed content for players to discover, including new abilities, game modes, cosmetics and more.

The update for Epic Games' massively played free-to-play battle royale title comes only a week after the previous one. Last week Fortnite sent out a hotfix adding the Explosive Goo Gun and throwable Launchpads, in addition to unvaulting Shield Bubbles. While a sizable hotfix, adding several items into the game, it pales in comparison to Fortnite's latest update.

Fortnite's Fortnitemares 2022 content update adds a plethora of spooky content to the game just in time for the Halloween season. Showcased in a new trailer, players will be introduced to DJ Lyka at the Reality Tree, where players will be able to effectively transform into werewolves. Stepping on an Alteration Alter grants Howler Claws, giving the wielder the Wolfscent and Slash Ability. Wolfscent Ability gives tracking vision, letting players repeatedly mark nearby enemies, while the Slash Ability unleashes a four-hit melee barrage. An Air Slash Ability is also included, which is a double jump that damages opponents upon landing.

As featured in the trailer, Fortnitemares 2022 also includes a variety of new cosmetics, including horror icon Ash from the Evil Dead, some fan-designed contest winners, and Queen Summer and Mr. Meeseeks from Rick and Morty. Available in the Item Shop, Glorzo Queen Summer and Mr. Meeseeks join the Rick and Mecha-Morty skins already in Fortnite. The macabre fan-created Sinister Glare and Undying Sorrow ouftits can also be found in the Item Shop. Although unclear, Fortnite is hinting that Ash may be a new boss, with the character's iconic chainsaw as a new Mythic weapon for players to obtain.

While Fortnitemares 2022 may have plenty of tricks, it also has plenty of treats as well. Players will be able to complete Fortnitemares Quests to unlock a set of spooky-themed chrome accessories, including the Everything's End Glider, Unmaker Pickaxe, and the ribcage-like Chrome Cage Back Bling. Candy makes its return as does the fan-favorite Pumpkin Launcher, ending the long hiatus Fortnite has gone without any form of the Rocket Launcher in regular gameplay.

Also coming back from the grave is Fortnite's Horde Rush mode, but this time with a twist. Available only within Fortnite's Zero Build Mode, the new Zero Build Horde Rush gives players their toughest version of the mode yet, having all the same requirements as before, only without the help of any kind of structure building. Between the plethora of cosmetics, the new Howler Claws, updated locations and more, there's a scary amount of content for Fortnite players to discover.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
