Fortnite's seasonal content releases are a major part of the battle royale's live-service structure. But no other aspect of Fortnite's seasons is as highly anticipated as its massive end-of-season events. These season-ending events often feature major cinematic experiences that Fortnite players can participate in themselves. Chapter 2 Season 7 of Fortnite is no different. Epic Games has now announced Operation: Sky Fire, the final event for Chapter 2 Season 7 of Fortnite.

First, here's how Fortnite players can experience Operation: Sky Fire. The Chapter 2 Season 7 ending event will officially begin on Sunday, September 12, at 1:00 PM PT/4:00 PM ET. Once the event begins, players will be able to queue directly into the event. The queue will be accessible 30 minutes prior to the start of the event, allowing players to pre-queue so that they launch straight into the action when it begins. Each Operation: Sky Fire lobby will allow for 16 total players.

As for what Operation: Sky Fire is, Fortnite players likely already have an inkling. The alien Mothership hovering above Fortnite's map has led to all manner of astonishing consequences as the alien invasion has escalated for some time now. In Operation: Sky Fire, players will finally take the fight to the aliens. The official description is that Fortnite players' "strike teams" will board the Mothership and "deliver IO's final message" to the aliens as part of Doctor Slone's secret mission.

Operation: Sky Fire will mark the end of Chapter 2 Season 7. That means that Fortnite players will want to wrap up any limited-time Quests or Battle Pass-related activity between now and September 12 at 1:00 PM PT/4:00 PM ET. That includes spending all Battle Stars and Alien Artifacts, which will be automatically spent at the end of the season otherwise. Additionally, Superman's Quests will end with the season's ends, but LeBron James and Vox Hunter's will carry over to what's coming next.

As for what players can actually expect in Operation: Sky Fire, no one really knows. Doctor Slone's missions have implied a violent response to the alien invasion over the past several weeks, as she's researched alien abductions and more. The teaser looks like Slone's planted bombs on some of the floating islands around the Mothership. At the very least, Fortnite players can expect some fireworks.

Just as exciting to think about as Chapter 2 Season 7's end is what awaits Fortnite players at the start of Chapter 3 Season 8. Slone has warned that she plans to bring down the Mothership and that the area it's coming down is isn't unpopulated. That could hint at some major Fortnite map changes. Fortnite players will find out following Operation: Sky Fire on September 12.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
