Fans have been hungry for BioShock Infinite footage since the game was first announced, and that comes as no surprise with a title that's as highly anticipated as Irrational Games' upcoming blockbuster. In order to keep the hype train rolling, and to presumably keep fans satisfied after news of yet another minor delay, a gameplay video showcasing the first five minutes of the title in action has been released. Keep in mind that the clip contains some mild spoilers, but it certainly won't ruin too much for impatient gamers.

As anyone who watched the video can see, Booker DeWitt, the main protagonist in BioShock Infinite, has accepted the task of locating a girl by the name of Elizabeth. The poor sap likely isn't aware of what awaits him in the airborne city of Columbia, but he doesn't appear to have much of a choice — that much is obvious by the blood-stained letter informing him that it's his last chance to settle, what gamers can only assume is, a substantial debt.

The opening scene is oddly reminiscent of the first portion of the original BioShock, though, but fans can rest easy knowing that this sense of deja vu is likely intentional on the part of the developers. It also helps to demonstrate that the underwater city of Rapture and Infinite's Columbia aren't all that different, while also maintaining a certain familiarity that fans have with the universe.

Now that gamers know how the game begins, and to some extent what to expect from the ending of BioShock Infinite, it'll be interesting to see how DeWitt's journey actually plays out. There are still a number of questions that need to be answered, but gamers should have a majority of them addressed sooner rather than later. In the meantime, fans will have to find ways of keeping themselves distracted until the next bit of news glides down from Irrational Games.

BioShock Infinite will launch for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on March 26, 2013.
