Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes boasts quite a large roster of playable characters. Every student character from previous title Fire Emblem: Three Houses returns, as do several Knights of Seiros; new characters include protagonist Shez, Adrestian mage Monica von Ochs, Leicester warrior Holst Goneril, and many more. However, fans are still hoping to see new playable characters added to Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes in the form of DLC content. Several characters who currently only appear as NPCs in the musou-style spinoff game could actually work quite well as playable units with unique fighting styles.

Each of the game's three routes has a different roster of playable characters, representing the Adrestian Empire, Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and Leicester Alliance respectively. Some characters are exclusive to a single route, while others can be recruited in multiple routes if the proper battle strategies are used. Other characters, including Sothis, Arval, Rhea, and the Gatekeeper, are only unlocked after players have completed the game multiple times. While there are plenty of interesting characters to choose from, there are still a number of NPCs who could be promoted to playable as DLC content.

Those Who Slither in the Dark

Also known as the Agarthans, this mysterious, villainous group operates from the shadows of Fodlan. They serve as some of the main antagonists in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and return in Three Hopes seeking to permanently destroy the goddess Sothis and her saints. Although the organization is said to number in the hundreds, four members appear most prominently as antagonists: the assassin Kronya, the mage Solon, the scheming politician Cornelia, and Thales, the group's leader. While they appear only as antagonists in Three Hopes, any of these members of "those who slither in the dark" could offer players a unique opportunity to step into the shoes of the game's villains.

Agarthians typically use a combination of cursed weapons and dark magic in battle. Some, such as Kronya and Cornelia, possess the additional power to summon giant Demonic Beasts onto the battlefield to distract and overwhelm their enemies. While any of the named Agarthians would make good playable characters, Thales in particular would offer a unique combat experience. He has his own personalized class, Agastya, which can use both elemental and dark magic and has the ability to seal the physical and magical abilities of opponents. Another good option would be Kronya, who has a unique history with playable character Monica that could make for interesting story content.

The Students' Parents

In Three Hopes, Felix of the Blue Lions is given the opportunity to fight alongside his father Rodrigue, who is promoted to playable after first appearing as an important NPC in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Felix and Rodrigue have unique interactions and Support conversations as well as contrasting fighting styles - Felix prefers infantry classes and has a high Speed stat, while Rodrigue is much more defensive and works best as a mounted Paladin or Great Knight. Rodrigue proves that the older parental characters can work as playable units and provide interesting interactions with their children, potentially opening the door for other fathers and mothers to be added as DLC.

Many of the students characters' parents appear as important NPCs, allies, or opponents in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. These include Counts Bergliez, Hevring, and Varley, the fathers of Caspar, Linhardt, and Bernadetta respectively, as well as Lorenz's father Duke Gloucester and Sylvain's father Margrave Gautier. Most of these characters are described as powerful and competent fighters, and any of them would be a solid addition to the game's playable roster. In particular, Count Bergliez, who wields a pair of legendary Gauntlets and is described as one of the Adrestian Empire's greatest fighters, has become highly requested by fans.

Saints Indech and Macuil

The continent of Fodlan is ruled over by the goddess Sothis and her descendants, the Saints, who are the source of many of the Crests and Sacred Weapons present in the games' setting. Three saints - Seiros, Cichol, and Cethleann - are playable characters in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, operating under assumed names and false human identities. Fans would like to see Saint Indech, a water-dwelling turtle-dragon, and Saint Macuil, an avian Saint with wind powers, added to the roster. Adding these Saints as DLC could bring back the Manakete, a popular Fire Emblem class that allows its user to turn into a draconic form in battle. Manaketes are completely absent from Three Hopes, and some fans find themselves missing the iconic transformation-based class.

So far, no downloadable content has been officially announced. However, adding DLC in the form of new characters, classes, story maps, or Paralogues could help clear up some of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes' lingering mysteries that have left fans perplexed and wanting more.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is currently available for the Nintendo Switch.
