The Final Fantasy 7 Remake is almost on store shelves, and Square-Enix has released some new merchandise to their store to celebrate the game and one of the game's most popular characters. Aerith Gainsborough, one of the primary playable characters of Final Fantasy 7, has inspired two silver necklaces that are now available for pre-order in anticipation of the new game.

There is a catch to these two new items however, as the price of each one comes in at a whopping $147.99, meaning players will have to drop almost $300 if they want to own both. Although, this isn't the first time that high priced items based on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake have dropped on the Square-Enix Store, including other jewelry and the famously expensive Play-Arts models.

The design of the new necklaces don't emulate Aerith's necklace worn in-game, but instead are based on some of the most notable aspects of her design and character arc. One necklace is a small, rose gold ribbon that draws inspiration from the pink ribbon that Aerith wears in her hair. The second piece shows a small green jewel in the center of a silver rose, a clear reference to Aerith's job as a Flower Girl and the Holy Materia that becomes prominent later in her story arc.

With the way fans have flocked around Aerith's character and design and poured over every bit of information they can get about the upcoming remake, an item like these necklaces is sure to sell well with collectors. Unfortunately the jewelry won't be available until May, so fans looking for the perfect Holiday gift may have to look elsewhere. However, the beautiful design and high grade silver make, these pieces quality extends beyond their value as a collector's item.

Tie-in products and merchandising are fairly common for games, but not many titles are able to monetize on their fame to the extent of high priced jewelry for sale months before release. Although, it certainly is the nature of remakes to capitalize on the good will that comes from the original release of a well loved game. Whether anyone actually buys these necklaces or not, the fact that Square-Enix is confident enough in the popularity of the game to make these products really talks to the power of nostalgia, which has proven to offer some pretty stellar remakes in the past, from Crash Bandicoot to the Resident Evil Remakes.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is set to release on March 3rd, 2020 for the PS4.
