Sony reveals that Final Fantasy 15 will be receiving the virtual reality treatment, demonstrating first-person gameplay especially made for the PlayStation VR.

Final Fantasy XV already looks like it's going to be an amazing experience, even though gamers have had to wait years for it to actually release. Part of the delay, however, may be due to the fact that Final Fantasy XV will be PlayStation VR compatible.

Revealed today during Sony's E3 2016 press conference, the PlayStation VR was officially announced as coming later this year. Sony then went on to reveal some of the games that will launch alongside it and will be PlayStation VR compatible, and one of E3's most anticipated gamesFinal Fantasy XV, is one of them. Square Enix has clearly been quietly developing a virtual reality playthrough of the game for gamers to enjoy.

The trailer is brief, but it shows fresh Final Fantasy XV footage from a first-person perspective. Gamers will be able to explore the beautiful world of Final Fantasy XV, drive, and even do battle while wearing the PlayStation VR headset. Square Enix has dubbed it Final Fantasy XV: VR Experience, so it remains unclear whether or not this is a separate game or a feature that will be inherently available in the base Final Fantasy XV game, providing that the player has a PlayStation VR headset. Interestingly enough, the trailer shows one of the game's characters wearing the PlayStation VR headset within the game. This is probably simply for the purpose of promoting the endeavor at E3, but it's nonetheless amusing to look at.

Final Fantasy XV releases in September, so the base game will actually be playable before PlayStation VR is released. Even if Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy XV: VR Experience are one and the same, it remains to be seen whether gamers will be able to switch back and forth between a VR playthrough and a traditional playthrough or not. In any case, considering that Final Fantasy XV will be 50 hours long, it should be more than be enough to keep gamers entertained with their new PlayStation VR headsets.

Final Fantasy fans have had to wait an extraordinarily long time for Final Fantasy XV. However, if it'd released years ago, a virtual reality playthrough wouldn't have been a possibility. While it may not completely make up for the extended wait, the idea of exploring the world of Final Fantasy in virtual reality is something that fans have been dreaming of for years, and it's finally becoming a reality.
